Italy here.
Before the arrival of Amazon Kindle the market was very small, with Bookeen (Gen3, Opus) and Sony (600/650, T1) as the leaders, and Onyx/PocketBook following at distance; after the arrival of Amazon Kindle... well, Kindle took over half of the market within two months (Nov 2011-Jan 2012). Now there is huge excitement for Kobo, which signed an agreement with Mondadori (the largest publisher in Italy). |

If this baby gets a low price, and a light diffusion at least as good as the Kobo Glo, then we have a very serious contender for this generation of readers.

From a Swedish perspective, one of our largest online bookstores, Adlibris, sells the rebranded version of the Odyssey as the Letto. It will be interesting to see if they start selling this upgraded version as well.

Add me to the count of the skeptics. Anyway, I took a screenshot of their page.

I am not too crazy about the hitherto available ebook readers by this brand. But at least this is the second front lit HD reader that will be available in Europe so at least I can choose from two instead of none or one brand only.
So I'll pick between the Kobo Glo and this Odyssey HD. One pro for the Odyssey is that they say it will have physical buttons to turn pages, which the Kobo does not have (nor the Paperwhite for that matter) and I am not one that likes to smudge and dirt up my screen by touching it all the time. But we'll see ... Anyways it is confirmed on this blog: http://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/201...th-frontlight/ Last edited by Quexos; 10-10-2012 at 01:28 PM. |

@Quexos: my previous comment (and bob123's one) was about the promised availability of a new firmware for old "V. 1" Odyssey, not about the actual launch of the Bookeen Cybook Odyssey HD FrontLight.

The Odyssey's buttons work very well but for me they were too high up. So if buttons are important try to handle one physically before you buy.

If you read this blog entry from Bookeen http://bookeen.com/blog/cybook-odyssey-hd-frontlight/ it look like there are going to be TWO new versions of the Odyssey.

Correct, basically one with and one without front light. (Didn't we talk about that? Perhaps I am mixing the discussion with the Italian one at SBF forum.)
Plus, PDF reflow has been promised for "old" Odyssey's as well, via a new firmware update. |
