Problems with Calibre not detecting IPAD mini

I'm having problems with Calibre detecting my IPAD mini and running the Marvin XD plugin. I'm thinking the first problem is causing the second. Below is the details requested along with a debug report. Can anyone help?

DETAIL

• Calibre Version: 1.9, 64 bit
• Calibre's language: English (UK)
• Operating system: Windows Vista 64-bit
• iTunes Version: 11.1.2.32
• Plugin1: IOS Reader applications v1.2.2
• Plugin2: Marvin XD v1.0.9
• The preferred reader application: Marvin
• Device: Ipad mini running ios7
• Problem: Device not detected by Calibre when connected with USB cable. When installing Marvin XD plugin the icon shows on Calibre but is greyed out.

@GOGGS75:

Have you followed the directions in the first post to select Marvin as your preferred reader application? Have you initiated the calibre connection in Marvin?

Hi G

I have set Marvin as the preferred reader application. From my device I have tried to connect to Calibre and it stalls at the message 'Calibre connected Raady ..'

I noticed the debug report stating 'No suitable MTP device found' near the bottom?

@GOGGS75, Do you see the red Marvin icon labeled 'Device' in the calibre tool bar?

If there's a chevron (>>) at the right end of your tool bar, click it to see if the Device icon is in that area. If so, you can rearrange the icons in the toolbar in Preferences.

If not, create an issue at the plugin's GitHub issue tracker with a debug log. You can find directions for creating a debug log in issue #1 ('Creating a new issue') at the issue tracker.

Hello, I just got my new iPad Mini, restored it from my iPad4 backup and tried to connect it to Calibre on my Mac Mini but Calibre does not see it. (the iPhone is still seen perfectly).

I have opened issue #21 on Gibhub. Thanks.

As the library&app comes from a restore, do I need to remove everything and reinstall? It would be quite cumbersome...

Marvin For Ipad vs Marvin Universal

I recently upgraded my **software** from old Marvin for Ipad Only to the new Marvin Universal. Unfortunately, the combination IOS Reader (1.2.5) / MarvinXD (1.0.9) plugins have stopped working. They continue to work correctly when I load the older Marvin software, but Calibre does not respond at all to the newer Marvin software.

Never mind. I just found this comment

Quote:
If you are using Marvin, confirm that you have only one version of Marvin installed on your iDevice. For example, if you upgraded from Marvin for iPad to Marvin universal, remove the older Marvin for iPad.
and that resolved my problem.

Now that there are two versions capable of connecting I was hoping to be able to do something I've been wanting to do a long time, keep fiction and non fiction totally separated on my iPad in two readers. I find it very restricting that an addon requires me to remove one version. I could of course use another reader that links to iOS reader but that is about as useless as not being able to use both Marvins, for one thing the (lack of) capabilities of the 'alternate' and the constant need to switch the plugin config

Is there any chance this restriction will be removed?
EDIT: consider the above resolved. Since they are 'different' apps, I've chosen not to use a universal connection but made each a separate alias.

One of the best features about Marvin for me, is the Collections facility. I too have different libraries in Calibre and using the new MXD extension from Calibre together with Collections in Marvin, it is simple to manage and navigate the eBook library on my two mobile devices.

I suggest you experiment with this to see what works best for you. Note that you can set the Collection in Calibre before sending eBooks to Marvin.
