Calibre library has disappeared
I thought that this thread belonged in Calibre but another member suggested Kindle. But I don't think it has anything to do with my kindle.

The last time that I opened my Calibre library management software I found empty book shelves. There had only been about 55 books in calbre since I'm new to ebooks and haven't put them all into calibre. ( Now I don't think that I will if they disappear that way). When I looked into the library file there were only 2 files inside. One looked like gears and said "metadata data base file 127 KB" and the other looked like the unknown file picture and said "metadata_db_prefs_backup.j JSON file 13 KB"

Does all of this mean anything to someone? and which forum should I be in to get further reply.
Please help with very simple explanation. I am new to this whole thing.A friend suggested that this webssite could answer any question about calibre.

The Calibre forum would have been the best place to ask this question.

There are two possibilities:

1. You did indeed delete all of your books. The only solution is to replace a backup of the library, or to import your books into Calibre again. (Please tell me that library was not the only place you keep your books...)

2. You may have inadvertently created a new library, and you're now looking at a new, empty one. Click the Library button, and point to the option "Quick Switch". Is there another library listed there? If so, switch to it.

So, just to be clear, your books have disappeared from Calibre on your desktop, not from your physical Kindle, or Kindle for PC/Mac on your desktop?

If it is in Calibre, are you in Library view or Device view? It's easy to mix the two up.

Thank you all for your suggestions. In reply to Katsunami - Yes I do have my collection on my PC and with an external drive.

As soon as I am able to try all of your suggestions I will reply.Thanks for your attention .
