This has been an issue with them from the beginning - thought they had it fixed with their new "confirm" box, but they apparently still didn't bother to properly implement it.

OK - tested here, got it free from B&N. If you didn't and have to get a refund, be sure to download first, as their "refund" procedure requires them to take the book out of their library.

Quote:
IN THE BLOOD: A Jefferson Tayte Genealogical Crime Mystery #1. 110,000 words.
A dark secret locked in the past. A family historian trying against the odds to unlock it.

One of Amazon UK's 'Best Books of 2011'. A 'Kindle Customer Favourite' with over 500 five-star reviews worldwide.

DESCRIPTION
Family history was never supposed to be like this...

When American genealogist, Jefferson Tayte, accepted his latest assignment he had no idea it might kill him. But while murder was never part of the curriculum he is kidding himself if he thinks he can walk away from this one.

Why can't I trace them? What happened to them?

Driven by the irony of being a genealogist who doesn't know who his own parents are, Tayte soon finds that the assignment shares a stark similarity to his own struggle. Someone has gone to great lengths to erase an entire family bloodline from recorded history and he's not going home until he's found out why. After all, if he's not good enough to find this family, how can he ever expect to be good enough to someday find his own?

Set in Cornwall, England, past and present, Tayte's research centres around the tragic life of a young Cornish girl, a writing box, and the discovery of a dark family secret that he believes will lead him to the family he is looking for. Trouble is, someone else is looking for the same answers and they will stop at nothing to find them.

The Jefferson Tayte Genealogical Crime Mysteries. What secrets are in your family history?

From Amazon Vine Voice, Cathy G. Cole of Kittling Books:
- The mystery surrounding the Fairborne family was excellent. By book's end I hadn't figured it out. This is the first book by Steve Robinson, and I am definitely looking forward to reading more!

From the worldwide Amazon community:
- I recently read Oliver Potzsch's book The Hangman's Daughter and The Dark Monk so I started an Amazon search for something similar. You have to read "In the Blood" you will be hooked! Karen FH 3 July 2012
- It's not often somebody takes the murder mystery in a different direction and succeeds as well as this author has done. More please! G.Beech 25 Mar 2012
- Just finished this and can honestly say it is the best crime novel I have read in the past year. I. Clements 22 Feb 2012
- This family secret laden story truly suggests not only [Robert] Goddard but EARLY Goddard at his best. Highly recommended! Hans Wollstein (Goodreads) 21 Feb 2012
- I don't even know where to begin singing the praises of this book. It was, to me, that brilliant. Tori 21 Feb 2012
- Parts are reminiscent of Daphne Du Maurier but with a modern edge. Rosen Trevithick 13 Dec 2011
- This is a great, cleverly-written book by an author with a descriptive style that is really much better than we have any right to expect from a narrative thriller. Matt James 8 Nov 2011
- This author has written a début novel of such quality it stands up easily among best selling main stream authors. Mrs S.A.Blane 14 Sep 2011
- The combination of genealogy research, heavenly setting, believable, witty dialogue and cliff-hanging action created one bang-up read. Marcia Pitts 12 Aug 2011
- If you want a great mystery that thrills right to the end, you cannot choose better than In The Blood. G.Robbins 4 Aug

The 24th Letter ((Mystery/Thriller)) [Kindle Edition] Tom Lowe (Author)

http://www.amazon.com/24th-Letter-My..._154606011_f_3

Quote:
It happens to every homicide investigator. Even the best of the best. Sean O’Brien never thought it would happen to him. But there was something about the look in the accused man’s face that O’Brien could never quite forget. It was a look that haunted him in the dark hours somewhere between sleep and consciousness. Even a decade later he remembered the man’s face when the jury delivered the guilty verdict.

Although the evidence was overwhelming, something in O’Brien’s gut told him there was more to the story than surfaced in court, more than what was found at the murder scene. But caseloads mount and time has a way of blurring the lines of desperation in a man’s face until something surfaces. For O’Brien, it happens when he receives a call from Father Callahan.

The priest hears the confession of a frightened prison inmate, and he learns that a man facing lethal injection in 84 hours is innocent. The lead investigator on the high-profile case was his old his friend Sean O’Brien. And now O'Brien has a chance to right a horrible wrong. But he has less than 84 hours to uncover clues to a crime that sent an innocent man to death row.

Appeals have expired and the man will be executed in 84 hours unless O’Brien can find evidence that points to the real killer. The 24th letter in the Greek alphabet—Omega—may provide the key to uncovering the killer’s identity.

Evidence may not lie, but evil does, and when the original killer comes out of his lair, O'Brien is in a race to save two lives - the man on death row and his own.

Seven Patients [Kindle Edition] Atul Kumar (Author)

http://www.amazon.com/Seven-Patients..._154606011_f_3

Quote:
Getting into medical school was easy. The hard part was staying out of jail.

Third year medical student Raj Mok is excited about starting his clinical rotations. Finally, he’ll be taking care of real patients instead of just reading about diagnoses and treatments in his countless medical tomes. Unfortunately, Raj quickly learns that patients don’t behave like his beloved books led him to believe.

The death of his very first patient is a shock. She never even had a chance at life.

Raj’s second patient, Duane—a young professional—enters the hospital with a benign kidney condition, but only one person knows the truth about why he never left. Meanwhile his third patient, a crotchety nonagenarian who happens to be Duane’s neighbor, leaves the hospital just as she arrived, only with a few new stents after her third heart attack. Proving bad things happen to good people in medicine.

Discouraged and contemplating a change in careers, Raj is elated when his fourth patient, a surgeon himself, defeats cancer thanks to a heroic operation. While his career as a surgeon is over, his quality of life reaches new heights.

When his sixth patient destroys the life of his love interest, Raj quickly learns that doctors make very good executioners; the autopsy even confirms no signs of foul play.

Patients five and seven … you just have to read about them to believe it.

The most outrageous patients of the year teach Raj that medicine isn’t always about healing and that killing isn’t always murder.

Miss Silver Comes to Stay (Amazon US)
Quote:

On vacation in a tiny village, Miss Silver investigates a murder with a decades-old motive
The citizens of Melling are perfectly ordinary—exactly the sort one finds in just about every cozy English village—and to a certain person they might even appear boring. But to Miss Silver, people are always interesting. It has been some years since she gave up work as a governess to become a detective, and her interest in people has served her well. She comes to Melling on vacation—a long postponed visit to an old school chum—but Miss Silver’s business is murder, and her vacations never last long.

The town’s prodigal son has returned, wealthy and without nostalgia for the village of his birth. He intends to sell his manor house and be done with Melling forever. But Melling has not finished with him.

Free cozy mystery from Cozy Cat Press: Ghosted by Patricia Rockwell.

Quote:
It’s Halloween and time for the goblins to come out. But for Essie Cobb, senior sleuth, and her pals at the Happy Haven Assisted Living Facility, there’s nothing quite so spooky as a good mystery. Maybe it’s the strange new resident who resembles Mark Twain. Why does he collect a box surreptitiously each day from a stranger behind the kitchen entrance? Or maybe it’s Felix Federico, Happy Haven’s new manager. Where did this Italian heart throb of all the female residents, develop his charming ways? And will Essie’s pals be able to convince her to go on a field trip to a local haunted house despite her aversion to any activity that takes her away from a nearby restroom? But most important––why is Essie seeing things? Such as large rodents in her shower, faces in her crossword puzzles, and the ghost of her dead husband on her favorite television game show? Is she being haunted or is age finally catching up to this ninety-year-old lady? Essie isn’t one to just sit around and wait for an answer. She’s going into detective mode and find out why she’s being GHOSTED.

Free thriller from Endeavor: Spies of Jerusalem by Colin Smith.

Quote:
Palestine, 1917. A land of conflict. And a land of spies.

As World War One rages on the killing fields of Flanders, another battle is playing out in the Holy Land.

British forces invade a stronghold of the Ottoman Empire, fighting German officers, Arab conscripts and Turkish troops.

But as the British armies advance, the Germans suspect they have a traitor within their ranks.

An agent - code-named Daniel - is transmitting messages to the British from the heart of the German headquarters.

If they can't stop him, the war will be lost.

But as the Germans dig deeper, they discover an espionage ring called Nili
made up of Zionist Jews supporting the British.

They begin close in on the ring.

But will they ever unearth the true identity of Daniel?

And what is the true purpose of the organisation known as Nili?

In this gripping novel, Colin Smith interweaves the stories of British Tommies, German officers and Jewish nationals.

In a tale of intrigue and espionage the hunt for Daniel turns into a race against time, as the British prepare to meet the Austrian troops on the brutal battlefield at Huj.

Quote:
Boxed set of three #1 bestselling mystery novels featuring private investigator, Jim Knighthorse, including:

DARK HORSE
When high school student Derrick Booker, the only black student at a posh Orange County high school, is accused of killing his white girlfriend, ex-college football hero and detective Jim Knighthorse is hired to dig a little deeper into the murder. It doesn't take long for Knighthorse to realize that not all is as it seems at tranquil Huntington High, from a band director who preys on the innocent to a vice-principal with a secret agenda of her own. Not to mention someone's hired a professional killer to keep Knighthorse permanently off the case. As the investigation continues, Knighthorse's personal life is shattered by the discovery of new evidence relating to his mother's unsolved murder, a murder dating back twenty years. Reeling from the discovery, a determined Jim Knighthorse sets out to bring two killers to justice.

THE MUMMY CASE
Private investigator Jim Knighthorse takes on a very, very cold case. When historian Willie Clarke dies of mysteriously of dehydration in the California deserts, ex-football hero Jim Knighthorse is hired to dig a little deeper—and discovers a shocking connection to one of the West's oldest mysteries. Over a hundred years ago, an unnamed cowboy was murdered in the California desert and, due to freak weather conditions, would become mummified within twenty-four hours. Now known to the world as Sylvester the Mummy and displayed in a creepy curiosity shop, Sylvester and historian Willie Clarke will be forever linked in mystery. That is, unless private investigator Jim Knighthorse can survive long enough to untangle one of the West's greatest unsolved murders.

HAIL MARY
In this third book of the series, Private investigator Jim Knighthorse finds himself on the trail of his mother's killer, a cold case spanning two decades. While on the hunt, he takes on a brutal case that takes him into shark-infested waters and deep into the heart of Mexico. All the while, Knighthorse comes closer and closer to finding his mother's killer...and there's going to be hell to pay.

A police mystery free at Amazon (U.S.):

Nailed by Joseph Flynn

Ron Ketchum saw his share of the dark side of life as a cop in Los Angeles. Then he left L.A. to become the chief of police in the Sierra Nevada resort town of Goldstrike. One sunny morning in the mountains, though, he comes upon a crime unlike anything he’s ever seen before.

He finds the body of an African American man nailed to a tree.

The victim is a highly respected minister, and his father is the nationally known televangelist Jimmy Thunder. Ron, on the other hand, has described himself in court as a recovering bigot.

Goldstrike’s mayor for life and movie icon, Clay Steadman, wants Ron to catch the killer fast. Adding to the pressure, the victim’s grandmother comes to town. She tells the media mob that has descended on Goldstrike that God will curse the town until the killer is caught.

That’s when a rogue mountain lion begins attacking people. At first, the attacks happen on the wilderness outskirts of Goldstrike. Then the predator moves into town, leaping a fence into a family’s backyard. Finally, it turns the tables on one of the hunters sent out to bring it down.

Looking for a killer, hunting a lion and defending his own integrity — makes being a cop in L.A. seem like the good old days.

Quote:
When your whole life is based on a lie, learning the truth could be deadly.

On a sunny day in July, Clare Prentice arrives in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Although she is on assignment to interview the town’s notoriously reclusive novelist Nate Hanssen, Clare is really in search of a different story–her story.

Just months before, Clare was a bride-to-be, living in Chicago, and looking to the future…until the day she learned her entire life had been a lie.

Not only was Clare adopted, but there is no record that she or her adoptive mother ever existed. The only clue is a class ring from Grand Rapids Senior High School. Unable to get on with her future until she reconciles her past, Clare breaks off her engagement.

Unraveling the mystery is like trying to sculpt fog–until the first piece of the puzzle unexpectedly drops into place: Clare’s birth mother, Lily Gundersen, was murdered in Grand Rapids.

Lily’s murder was one of the most talked-about events in the town’s history, but no one is talking now.

This silence isn’t just deafening; it’s dangerous. Clare hasn’t learned the whole story – and someone intends to keep it that way.
