This appears to be self-published, but it claims to be a #1 Amazon best seller; so I'll leave it up for now.

All four Jane Candiotti books by Clyde Phillips are part of the US Kindle mystery monthly sale at $1.99. There is also a four-book bundle for $7.96, which just happens to be 4 x $1.99...

I don't know how much they normally are, so don't know how much this is really a sale price, although they listed in the monthly sale group. But this is IMO a pretty good price for backlist books. Three were DTB back around the turn of the century (how fun it is to say that...) and the fourth is Amazon's in-house Thomas and Mercer from a couple of years ago.

The four are:

Fall from Grace
Spoiler:
Quote:
Veteran San Francisco homicide detective Jane Candiotti never had a problem drawing the line between her personal and professional lives—until the night she meets David Perry after his socialite wife, Jenna, is brutally murdered. The facts are damning: the Perrys were embroiled in a bitter divorce and now David stands to inherit millions in the wake of Jenna’s death. But Jane’s instincts tell her there’s more to this case than just greed and love gone sour.

To uncover the truth, she must dig into the sordid secrets of the city’s most powerful families, a quest that will draw her inextricably closer to David and his teenage daughter…and to the cold-blooded killer who’s stalking their every move. But when the case takes a shocking turn, it’s not just Jane’s reputation that’s hanging in the balance—it’s her life.

A terrifying noir thriller from the executive producer of Dexter, Fall From Grace was hailed by Dennis Lehane as “a deftly plotted first novel with the pace of a hurricane and the impact of an earthquake.”

Blindsided
Spoiler:
Quote:
San Francisco homicide detective Jane Candiotti never shies away from the risks of the job. Now she’s finally ready to gamble on her personal life, inviting her partner and boyfriend Kenny Marks to move in. But just when domestic bliss settles in, Skip Lacey, an ex-cop turned junkie, is found brutally murdered, his eyes gouged out with a spoon. He is the first—but he won’t be the last.

Because after fifteen years on the inside maximum security, a bloodthirsty ex-con is finally free to exact his revenge on the city’s peacekeepers who’d kept him behind bars. One by one the mutilated bodies pile up, while the SFPD scrambles to unmask the killer who is decimating their ranks. For Jane and Kenny, the only thing worse than watching their friends and colleagues fall is the knowledge that, unless they can stop this unrelenting madman in time, any day could be their last.

Sacrifice
Spoiler:
Quote:
San Francisco homicide detective Jane Candiotti’s life is finally looking up, thanks to a new promotion and a new husband. But navigating newlywed life takes a backseat when Philip Iverson, a powerful Bay Area philanthropist, is found murdered in a downtown hotel. An hour later, a homeless man is stabbed to death at the docks, a crime most cops would shrug off. But Jane isn’t like most cops.

Her gut tells her there’s something bigger at play here, something linking the victims in death when it’s likely their paths never crossed in life. But uncovering the truth won’t be easy: the Powers That Be are demanding that the SFPD focus all their resources on the Iverson case, despite alarming evidence that a serial killer is at work. If Jane can’t solve these murders—and fast—she could lose more than just her job…

Gritty and enthralling, this new installment in Clyde Phillips’s bestselling Noir Thriller series proves once and for all why Michael Connelly dubbed him as “a master of the page-turner.”

Unthinkable
Spoiler:
Quote:
For homicide lieutenant Jane Candiotti, stress is part of the job. But now that she and her husband are expecting their first child, Jane is under strict instructions to take it easy. A tall order on an average day, yet never more so than when a mass shooting at a local restaurant claims six victims—including her teenaged nephew. Jane’s always been professional. But this time, it’s personal.

Before she can bring a baby into this world, Jane vows to hunt down the monster who didn’t think twice about shooting an innocent kid. But every thread of evidence leads her deeper into a tangled web of deception, violence, and murder. Her only hope of navigating the twisting turns of this case is to enlist the help of a dangerous ex-con, one who could shed light on the connection between the death of her nephew and a decades-old murder case—eventually leading her to the most shocking discovery of her career.

According to an author interview Phillips spent the intervening years producing the Dexter show for TV.

X-link to the General/Literary megathread since the author is a moderately popular humorous amateur sleuth mystery author:

Free from the author via KDP Select @ Amazon: The Rabbit Died by Sue Ann Jaffarian, a humorous short story about a dysfunctional family holiday.

ETA: Also, Michael A. Smith is repeating some of his crime/suspense thrillers if you missed them earlier, a few of them backlist originally from Avon & Tor's Forge imprint in the mid-90s, and offering a few newer self-pub things, via KDP Select @ Amazon (linkage for the lot)

hey, cool!

the godwulf manuscript isn't as developed as most of the spensers, but it does give you a little background that might help fill in a few small blanks for those who have read the later books only. don't expect all the characters who appear in later books, and expect spenser to be a little more like an old-school noire detective.

promised land was my first spenser. not, to my taste, as good as the later ones, but it did get me interested enough to read all 40 of robert b parker's spenser novels over time.

$.99 today: Nemesis (Harry Hole #4) by Jo Nesbo

Quote:
“Nesbø’s storytelling abilities are incomparable. Nemesis is crime novel as art form and great entertainment.”
—USA Today

The #1 international bestseller from one of the most celebrated crime writers in Europe--the New York Times bestselling author of The Snowman--Jo Nesbø’s extraordinary thriller Nemesis features Norwegian homicide detective Harry Hole, “the next in the long line of great noir crime detectives,” (San Diego Union-Tribune) in a case as dark and chilling as an Oslo winter’s night. The second Harry Hole novel to be released in America—following the critically acclaimed publication of The Redbird—Nemesis is a superb and surprising nail-biter that places Jo Nesbø in the company of Lawrence Block, Ian Rankin, Michael Connelly, and other top masters of crime fiction. Nesbø has already received the Glass Key Award and the Booksellers’ Prize, Norway’s most prestigious literary awards. Nemesis is proof that there are certainly more honors in this extraordinary writer's future.

The Cuckoo's Calling
$0.99

blurb:
Quote:
When a troubled model falls to her death from a snow-covered Mayfair balcony, it is assumed that she has committed suicide. However, her brother has his doubts, and calls in private investigator Cormoran Strike to look into the case.

Strike is a war veteran - wounded both physically and psychologically - and his life is in disarray. The case gives him a financial lifeline, but it comes at a personal cost: the more he delves into the young model's complex world, the darker things get - and the closer he gets to terrible danger . . .
