Split the "News and Commentary" section
How about subdividing "News and Commentary" Into "Technology", "Books and Authors", and "Legal Debate" sections, or some such?
If you don't view the section daily things are getting pushed pages and pages back. |

I used to get frustrated until I realized on the top bar.. Quick Links - Subscribed Threads, it showed every thread that I have posted to, in order of new posts.
This helps me keep up with threads that I frequent most often. All others, or to catch up on what else is posted, I then go to the specific forums. |

The problem with News and Commentary is the Commentary part. Too many people start threads that don't belong. I do feel that News & Commentary should just be for news and comments related to the news. If we weeded out the threads that do not really belong, it would make the section a lot easier to find stuff.

We do weed out a lot of stuff and move it elsewhere, Jon - eg to the Lounge.

I think a useful distinction would be separating "News from Reputable Sources" from "Rumors, Opinions, and Raving".
I'm feeling crotchety so please don't take offense, but the News and Commentary section is turning into the Lounge. |

If you spot a thread that you feel is not news, please do click the "Report Post" button (the "!" button to the left of the post) and request that it be moved.

Well, it is after all "News and Commentary", which in my opinion involves discussion.
Isn't the lounge supposed to be for social/silly threads and threads not about ebooks and ebook readers? I'd rather we didn't split up too much - a very fragmented forum creates "dead zones", where little activity creates even less activity. |

What Harry said refers to commentary on news as well, obviously. Since we are an active community which lives on commentary, it would be difficult to sort out the commentary from a news section, wouldn't it be.

Don't mind me, I'm just crotchety about some of the opinion threads.

An added General section to the category would help users find a place for their messages and help in not having to move stuff.

Any word on when the News and Commentary will actually be sorted? It's getting worse and worse as time goes by.

What?! It's fine. There are news and there are commentary. I can't see it's getting 'worse and worse'. I think you're over-reacting.
