Lots of files combined into one - most efficient way?

I have about 50 one or two page files I'd like neetly combined into one file with a table of contents.

What is the easiest way to go about this? So far, it seems like using the Mobipocket Creator would be the best way, but that is time consuming - it means opening each individual file, copy and pasting into another document, then at a minimum adding hyperlinks to each title, and a TOC.

If this were something I thought I could legally share I'd be happy to go to the effort. (Its weekly columns available from several web site locations and they are copyrighted.)

I did find I could add all the files to one mobi publication and build it, but that leaves out the TOC so I can't just browse to selected articles.

Any ideas?

I used CutePDF (free) to combine a large number of chapters into a book. It worked great and then I was able to drop it into Mobipocket creator to set it up in prc.

cheers

It seems strange that PDF may be the most viable target for MOBI conversion, but Leep's suggestion is worth trying. Windows MobiPocket Reader or Creator does a good job of converting "simple" PDFs to MOBI. Or send the PDF to Amazon for conversion.

Another possibility is FeedBooks, which allows you to build an ebook and "preview" your own copy in MOBI without publishing it for others to see.

Converting to .mobi isn't really my problem, I have a process for that.

What I'm looking for is a way to easily combine a bunch of small files into one long one without having to open each individually and copy/paste from it to the large one.

Try SoftSnow Merger. I'm not sure if it creates a TOC though.

Cute PDF appends files together which is why I liked it. You can just open the files in order, append, etc. and end up with one long document. This is a little shorter than copy, paste.

Ok, thanks all. When I went to download CutePDF it asked me to install something else. I try to be careful about what I install.

Also, I'm not seeing how to append anything with CutePDF. The version I downloaded just acts like a printer. Did I download the wrong version?

I installed Cute PDF Pro Evaluation. Then from "tools", select "merge PDF and image files". From there navigate to the folder where you have stored your individual files and with the shift key (or the control key) select the files you want to append. Then choose open. The next screen lets you rearrange, add or delete. Then click OK. Worked like a charm for me with a fairly long set of instructor manuals.

Someone else from Mobileread put me on to this program a few months ago. And I've really been pleased with it.

cheers
