Bluetooth+rooting eDGe = crazy? or is it ok to do?

I read I must have root access to let bluetooth transfer from eDGe to PC and back..... if that is true, is it something worth investigating or is it not worth the trouble?

Rooting isn't necessary. Just turn on BlueTooth. I use a newer ES File Explorer which includes a BlueTooth tab to browse the files on my smartphone, for example (Bluetooth FTP I think it's called).

EDIT: While I can see all the files and folders in the root directory of my smartphone, ES File Explorer waits forever on the "Getting file list" message when I try to open one of the folders, and trying to open a text or mp4 file in the base directory similarly doesn't actually result in anything. This could be a failing in ES File Explorer - another app may work.

I found "Bluetooth File Transfer" on SlideMe.org. It works very well (unlike ES File Explorer). It's free and doesn't require root.
