I bought a backup 950 on eBay; thus, I am treasuring my two 950s for as long as they are serviceable.
With my backup 950, I never read/use it but I periodically recharge the battery and hope that is sufficient "maintenance and care" to preserve its viability. . . . . . Pete |

Anyone know where I can buy a back-up Sony 650 so that I can read the epubs which my 505 doesn't handle well? Must have a new battery and be in good order.

NB if you find "new" 650 on offer, it will still have been manufactured 2 -3 years ago, so the battery will not really be "new"- it will be workable though - at worst it will need more frequent re-charges, that's all. the T1 is newer & also plentiful & cheap, but the 650 / 350 models will take custom prs+ fimrware, the T1 won't |

Nope. But good luck to you. Here's the problem. In 2 years, something will go wrong with your reader and you will need to redownload the software. It won't be there because Sony will drop all support. I don't know if 'rooting' your unit avoids this problem, but if that is the case, you want to be sure to learn how to do it now and save that information.
I DO get it. I just recently donated my Mac 6200 CD (from 1993) to be recycled. By 2000, I could no longer access the internet with it or supplies for the printer, and the CD thing died a couple of years later, so I've just been playing arcade games on it all these years. It was also what I used to read OCR'd books from the mid-90s since I couldn't read any longer. Not as comfy though as the ereader. |

If something goes wrong in 2 yrs with your reader, it's most likely going to be a dead battery or some other hardware issue that isn't supported by warranty anymore anyway.

yes, software which is actually held in firmware can't really go "wrong" unless you try to flash it & screw up. just keep a note of the hard reset instructions which will return you to factory "new" settings if you do manage to lock up the software ( though usually a pin in the bottom reset hole & then a power off fixes that)
