Question My specs - Any advice?

Hi, this is my first message.

I'd like to buy a device that:

- Handles pdf well
- Portable (I'm considering 5'' and 6'', maybe 5'' would be better)
- Allows highlighting (notetaking would be great)
- Dictionary lookup
- Not sure if 4 grayscale is enough... (I'd like to read comicbooks if possible)
- About 300€ (incl. cover)
- Don't need touchscreen, mp3 player, etc.
- Mainly to read books and documents (pdf, doc)

I'm considering:

Booq
Boox Onyx
Cool-er
Hanvon N518
iRivers Story
Kindle 2
Papyre 5.1/6.1
Pocketbbok 360/301
Sony PRS-300/505/600

Any advice?

No 5" or 6" EInk device is optimal for PDFS, but the best available are the PocketBooks. Unfortunately, the 360 and 301+ have 4 gray scales in hardware. The 360 is certainly your best 5" option. The other good option is the Onyx Boox 60 (or essentially identical BeBook Neo), with 16 gray scales in hardware and a (stylus only) touch screen. The PocketBook 302 has similar specs, but with a shiny resistive touch screen.

Hi,

The problem with making a choice is that some of your requirements are mutually exclusive. A 5" grey display device is fine for text only but pretty limited for many PDFs, and for most graphics based material. You may need to work out which features are most important to you and accept fairly poor compromises on some aspects, or perhaps even consider more than one device.

The following do:
Boox Onyx
Pocketbbok 360/301

The Sony's have "collections" which serve a similar function.

The following do not:
Booq
Cool-er
Kindle 2
Papyre 5.1/6.1

I'm not sure about:
Hanvon N518
iRivers Story
