ShineBook Mobile eBook Reader announced in Germany, reads both DRM-prc + DRM-ePub ...

According to German mobile phone news site teltarif.de a German company called Longshine announced the release of two devices, the ShineBook Mobile with touchscreen, WiFi, Bluetooth and UMTS support for about 300.- Euro and the ShineBook without all these feature for about 219.- Euro.

The main interesting part is that the press release states that the devices will be able to read both DRM-prc and DRM-ePub. Now, this would be a first one and a novelty among eBook reading devices and a news I would take with more than one grain of salt.

The ShineBook itself obviously is a branded Netronix EB600 (according to the screenshot provided by Longshine), though the EB600 has none of those features listed above.

I'm entertaining some doubt and will wait for the release of the ShineBook in November.

A Google translation for the news is here.

And here a product list of Longshines planned reading devices (in English).

Addendum: Ah, the company's site shines some long light on the DRM-issue. It seems that they are planning to release three different versions - one without DRM (based of FBReader, as it seems), one with Adobe-DRM, and one with Mobipocket-DRM.

Unless they're doing two firmware's you can switch between I wonder how they pulled off having both.

It is easy if you run Windows Mobile, they can have both of those and several more.

Well right, but the EB600/ShineBook runs linux AFAIK. Is there a version of ADE for WM (I didn't think there was)? Id love a good epub reader for my phone.

Makes sense, thanks.

Not ADE yet but a PDF reader with reflow is there. I forgot it said ePUB, I was thinking PDF. ZuluReader seems to be the only Windows Mobile choice but it is a pretty good choice. And the author will enhance it as needed.

There is probably a version for WinCE, since the iRiver Story and some of the Hanvons seem to be running WinCE (and mobile ADE). So, Adobe could easily produce a WM version if they wanted to. I guess there isn't enough money in the DRM business these days to support "free" readers.

These seem to be standard Netronix devices. If the DRM-free EB600 supports FBReader that would be good news, because OpenInkPot isn't currently running on a EB600.

ShineBook will be delivered in GERMANY

I got my ShineBook last week from www.JustRead.de within less than 24h .

It has the PDF/ePub - DRM featured firmware.

Seems to be very similiar with the COOL-ER device - but the main navigation button on the right bottom seems to be better designed.

Shinebook has standard Netronix firmware on board, same as Cool-er. A good solid reader!

I have a feeling it is two firmwares. Don't Amazon? want exclusivity when it comes to mobi licenses?

Yes, mobi-drm and epub-drm won't be running on one and the same device simultanously!
