[Old Thread] How to disable update check?
I would like to disable the update check for Calibre. The FAQ says, "If you are happy with how calibre works turn off the update notification and be on your merry way." I would like to know how to do this.
I looked, but did not find, an appropriately named option from the preferences menu. Thanks! |

Not to mention that there is a checkbox to disable the notification on the notification dialog itself.

Disabling update checker never worked for me in Calibre. I believe there must be a bug, because:
(1) I run calibre-portable.exe --no-update-check (2) I also disabled the option in GUI: It is still showing me new updates. |

I don't want to see "Update found: X.X.X" if possible.

I think you're the first person to want the version numbering turned off. I don't believe the existing programming offers any customization of that display (the whole line of text along the bottom there -- version, copyright, number of books, and update).

Because it causes no harm or distraction and provides valuable info to most folks.
Since luckylittle ask for this a year ago watchmaker would be the second user inquiring about this. |

If seeing the update message at the bottom of the window poses a risk to your sanity you can try disabling it by entering the Calibre web site address (www.calibre-ebook.com) in your browser's restricted sites list. If using IE it is at Tools>Security>Restricted Sites>Sites Button (that in IE10, from memory earlier versions are similar).
Of course, you will have to re-enable it if you want to go to the site for any other reason, or else use a second browser. EDIT: If that doesn't work try adding 127.0.0.1 calibre-ebook.com to your hosts file Last edited by AnotherCat; 10-16-2013 at 07:10 PM. |

better yet, get apache, configure it as transparent proxy, redirect the update check to a local file returning same version number as running. you'll never see another update again...
