Of course, there would be companies like Google and Yahoo, and probably a few independents, who would have a searchable index of all the book retailers, and you could search and sort the amalgamated data set to your hearts content.

and then the ones offering you the data set will say, "hey, why don't we sell these things directly? Let's call the new company...Amazon."

What's that line about if something didn't exist, it would be necessary to create it?
I think that Amazon, or an Amazon-like company, is almost inevitable once the Internet was developed. |
