Epub Validation Error?
I've been working on making my own epub for a while, but when I try to see if it's valid this error message comes up.
OPF file content.opf is missing What's this mean and how do I fix it? It's the only thing keeping my epub from being valid. |

What program did you use to create your epub with?

LadyDae, if your opf file is missing you are missing:
the metadata (factual details) pertaining to your publication the entire manifest the spine and the guide. This is a very significant part of the structure of your epublication. Epub generators such as InDesign produce this automatically (though InDesign inexplicably omits the date, which you have to go in and provide manually). What are using that no opf file was generated? |

I was using Calibre and it turned out not to be that good of a program because I just ended up going back into the file and formatting it myself. I got everything else except that. If that's the case, how do I fix it?

I've had no experience with Calibre, but I know others think highly of it.
My best recommendation would be for you to purchase and devour, as quickly as possible, Liz Castro's EPub Straight to the Point. She can walk you through creating an opf file step by step. (page 103) It's a simple utf-8 encoded text file located within the oebps folder and referenced by the container.xml file in the meta-inf directory. Let Liz show you the details. But without a proper opf file, your ebook will NEVER validate. |

If you think it is a bug, please report it to Khovid, the author of Calibre (I hope I got his name right...).
Have you tried Sigil? It is highly recommended and the author is very active on the forum. |

Wow. Sigil is wonderful... I can do all kinds of stuff on that and it was so easy. That'll be the next microsoft word of epubs and it was free. Anywho. I'm about done now, but what does this mean:
attribute "clear" not allowed at this point; ignored and how the do I fix it? Edit: Ignore that! I got it. Thank you for all the help! Last edited by LadyDae; 10-29-2010 at 10:03 PM. |
