However, I'm very disconcerted to find that - in the very first sentence - the author (?) didn't include a singular possessive on 'mothers bedroom.'

But...this is a first person narrative, so maybe the 'writer' [protagonist] is grammatically challenged.

ADDED: I see this is purposefully being done in this one phrase, since I've read about 5 pages so far, and it's recurring without the possessive.
