Is there anything you don't like about the vox?

I still haven't picked one up yet.
In the meantime if there is anything you wish vox had done differently or something you don't like; list it here.

For me, I think there is a real lack of information about how to use the vox, how to load/sideload content, etc. There isn't even an faq on the indigo website ....maybe that will come in time....

I wish it had Bluetooth built in. Many accessories could've been supported. Such as a Bluetooth headset w microphone so we could run Skype on it. Or a keyboard or mouse. Ok, the mouse is ridiculous although the keyboard might work.

Seriously though if my eight year old Palm TX has Bluetooth as does my el cheapo flip cell phone why not the Vox?

The crash, crash, crash nature of the current firmware. It was released too soon.

A real app market. For a device marketed as an open Android platform, the lack of Google is disturbing. Maybe the on,u only referred to side loading books, which the regular Kobo readers already do? A bit more RAM wouldn't have hurt either, given how RAM prices were we the thing must have been designed.

I second the crashing. I've crashed numerous times and had to restart. Also it would be nice if it could get apps from the Android Market. It's a pain to keep hunting around for a well-know app.

Whenever I shut it off fully, the clock and calendar reset to midnight October 1. I'd like to move those store/reading life/library icons off the bottom since I'm not using the kobo app as the reader. On the Android front (which is probably not Kobo's fault) Android Market would be nice, if I can figure out how to convince it I have 2 android products now. And I need to get a useful battery management app because I manage to drain mine in about 4 hours.

Otherwise, I like it.

actually, the one that came with the kobo is much better than the one that came with our eee pad transformer..only about a foot and half that one..

As for what I would liked to have seen done differently:

- Better Processor
- more sensitive touch screen
- access to Googles Android market; other markets are good and all, but many times apps you download refer back to the android marketplace for addons or updates.

I'm not fussed about the hardware side: it is, after all, $199 - about $60 more a touch eink device with a LOT more capability.

The processor is probably more capable than it appears at first blush: once I installed Opera Mobile as a browser I was amazed at how much zippier the device felt. I am also finding as I get the hang of the device, it is responding to my swipe gestures better (ie. I am learning the right motor skills; I went through a similar experience with the Blackberry Torch).

And the screen is amazing -- vibrant under normal indoor conditions and quite good outdoors. (I haven't taken it to the beach yet; in fact, I'm looking for my mittens at the moment.)

I can see the value in Bluetooth, a microphone, stereo speakers, a camera, two cameras for video calling, and then a bigger battery to support all that ... but all that stuff adds to the cost. The charm of Kobo -- just like the Original Kobo eink device -- is that it is able to enter the market with enough capability to deliver what it says ti will do ... at minimal cost.

Kobo Vox may be thought of as a tablet, but it is marketed as an ereader, and is sold in stores in the ereader section, not the tablet section. It adds colour to eink, enhances the social media capabilities, provides a backlit experience for those who want it, and delivers an environment for enhanced books, radio, some video and, of course, web surfing.

The glitches I have encountered appear to be "self-inflicted" -- loading up stuff trying to turn it into a tablet. Android is a bit of Wild West right now and, so yah, things blow up. I'm impressed by how cleanly Android appears to recover from install / uninstall. And I am encouraged by Kobo's agile development model -- and active participation in forums like MR -- which means that my $199 investment today is likely to be a better, richer reading experience one month, three months and six months from now.

TOTALLY!!! I've never seen anything soooo short!

The crashes are annoying, but I expected worse for the first batch of the Vox, so it's not too bad at all!

I really don't think it crases all that much. But then again I am used to Android devices that I find more unstable then a Windows Phone 7.5 or iOS device. I have only have one crash and that is loading a bunch of apps, reading comics playing games etc.

The cable for the power cord is pretty short. I can't really ask more for the hardware as I knoew what the specs were. Any other components would have just increase the cost. Thinner and lighter would have been nice but that would have made it more expensive.

I am pretty happy with it though as it does what I ask of it.

I haven't had it crash yet although it was real sluggish there once after installing an app. Shutdown/restart fixed that.

What is it with these short cords. Our power plugs are just above floor level and the cord for the iconia doesn't even reach to a table. And the plugs are such you cant use a generic charger - although - maybe an adaptor is available from a specialist store.

The charger's short cord meets China's consumer protection strict standards.
