Noticed the same, didn't exploit further...

I still lack some of mechanics of this, I finaly got things to balance and then exploded it again by leveling. Those cores can be real killers too, but I think I got the idea of surrouding them with population so they don't hit it and mess rest of stats...

I picked up a couple Thorium mines, but I brought them from "0" up to my Tech Level, Level 4, before using them. They give a little more energy, but it takes an honest 4 surge points to rev them up.

If that "0" was a typo for a 10, I'm still making out like a bandit, though.

You can fill all your extra spaces with those mines (at low levels) and surge at will (when charged, of course).

Eventually, they'll start working as designed, tho.

As you found out, you need to leave them unleveled to be able to get the zero surge.

just 8 cycles ago I was in the hole for everything. Would have about 100k in food and energy but just surged about 20k in pop.

There is a bug, reported at the bar, if you complete all projects for a level and then wait until the next cycle to level up, maybe you are a few bucks short on the level up cost or you want to start the level up with a new bunch of surge points. As the devs are still tweaking they can reset the amount needed to complete a project, as yours is marked as complete then you cannot add any more money to the project but the system will not allow you to update as it thinks the projects are not complete.

To cover yourself against this you can leave 1 buck still to pay for a project until you are ready to level up, this does not help those of us who are stuck though.

LOL. I grabbed a few and played with them - at my level, they cost way more per surge than they are worth (even at zero surge cost - the have little bucks/cycle and don't scale well).

In any case, once I played with them a bit, I sent Bob an email about them (he is also working on a fix for those who had stuck projects). Once the ones I bought charge up, I'll sell them back off and repurchase the assets I sold to make room for them.

I feel SO much better about this go around. I just leveled up to 4, doubled my population, quadrupled the amount of bucks per round, and am only slightly in the red on food in one sitting. Haven't gotten to any book coupons yet, but I should be able to hit both on alliances and levels today. I'm also thinking about expanding my grid a second time before leveling up so I can add another city core that will share biotraps with my pub row and mining town. Then I'll be able to surge a city core each round.

Hm, one Spider Canopy upgraded to level 8 gives as much bucks as 8 level 1 Houses of Ill Repute. And it seems level 9's winner will be the Promethium mine, not the level 9 Thorium Reactors. The bugged Thorium Reactors (level 0) might beat both when upgraded though.

A level 8 thorum mine is giving me 5250 so it looks like the promethium mine will beat it

Whilst still not actively playing again, I follow the forum. The thorium lev0-bug is reported and bob acknowledged it. So better not to make long-term speculations with this asset.

Everyone will want to recheck the values they are getting from City Cores - Bob made some massive changes (mostly downward), so you will want to be more careful in taking on large population (now I could use some small population gifts, but they keep showing up in 30,000 to 50,000 increments).
