filesystem formats supported on the SD card
I have a PNY Technologies 2GB (P-SD2G-RF3) card that went directly from the package into the Sony Reader. So far it has been working great using the CONNECT software and the Sony. I picked up a Belkin 15-in-1 USB2 reader this afternoon, while it was able to read all my other FAT16 and FAT12 SD Card, it can't recognize the file system that is on the card. Here is what I get when I try to mount the file system in linux:
[1429555.585135] SCSI device sdg: 2011136 1024-byte hdwr sectors (2059 MB) [1429555.588191] sdg: Write Protect is off [1429555.588194] sdg: Mode Sense: 00 23 00 00 [1429555.588197] sdg: assuming drive cache: write through [1429555.590936] SCSI device sdg: 2011136 1024-byte hdwr sectors (2059 MB) [1429555.594009] sdg: Write Protect is off [1429555.594013] sdg: Mode Sense: 00 23 00 00 [1429555.594016] sdg: assuming drive cache: write through [1429555.594132] sdg: sdg1 [1429555.455684] printk: 20 messages suppressed. I think it's FAT32. My Windows XP PC can read the card formatted by the Reader with no problems.

doh! it turns out that reader doesn't go beyong 1GB. it just hangs when i try to format it in windows, mac or linux. i was able to format the card in my camera, but now it shows up only as a 1GB card in the Sony. how do I go about having the CONNECT software to format the card?

I popped in a 4 gig card once when I first saw a Reader (preproduction model, but very close to final release). Definitely FAT32, and the Sony Reader could read it. But I can't tell you if I could read all of it or just the first 1-2gig.
I might be reading your post wrong, but are you sure it isn't the card reader or formatting of the card that is the problem? (And, of course, the 4gig cards seem to vary in compatibility with other devices like Treo's, for example.) |

i was able to reformat the card on a friend's SD card reader to FAT32 default allocation block; however, now when i put it in the Sony, it still shows up with no name and inaccessible, is there a file in the library that i will need to clear to get it to re-catalog?

I picked up a SanDisk ImageMate 5-in-1 (SDDR-99). The key is to make a DOS_FAT32 partition table with a FAT16 filesystem. Windows blue screened with USB OHCI every time when I tried to format the card in explorer, so I did it on linux with
mkdosfs -F 16 -n "sonycard" -v /dev/sd?1 I was able to restore my PNY 2GB SD card back to working state(now properly shows up in CONNECT). Last edited by jakeluck; 12-19-2006 at 12:03 AM. |

http://www.compuapps.com/Download/sw...swissknife.htm It may be useful for working with SD card. I've used it with 2GB cards |
