Removing books from Calibre DB

Sometimes I add a book in ZIP or .lit format. Most of these convert to ePub with no problem, but sometimes the conversion fails - not once but repeatedly on that particular file. I would like to remove the title from Calibre WITHOUT deleting the original file from my computer. How do I do this?

(In other words, I don't want titles showing in Calibre if I can't actually put them on my Reader. But since I may be able to open them with something else in the future, I don't want to delete the file entirely, just get it out of Calibre.)

Calibre never deletes your original file. When you add a book, Calibre makes a copy of it, and that's the only copy it ever deletes. Assuming you kept your original, just delete the book from Calibre. It will warn you that it's about to delete the book, but it's referring to Calibre's copy, not your original.

That said, why not just mark the books you can use on your Reader, then define a Restriction, and you'll never see the non-Reader books again (until you get a new reader that can read them.) Why bother to remove them?
