font issue

Hi - I've heard excellent things about Calibre and I'm excited to get started using it. The problem is, I have not been able to get the application to work. I downloaded the .dmg file and copied it to my applications folder, but when I click on the icon to open the application I get this error message:

OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/Ulsers'/klaas2/.fonts'

And the console message is:

I'll admit that I don't quite know what I'm doing, or how to fix it - if you have any suggestions I would appreciate it!

no such luck, unfortunately. I typed mkdir ~/.fonts into a terminal box and got this:

MSL:~ klaas2$ mkdir ~/.fonts
mkdir: /Users/klaas2/.fonts: Permission denied

Calibre still doesn't open, and has the same error message as before.

If you don't have permissions to create a folder in your home directory something is wrong. You can switch to root and check the owner, group and permissions on your home folder. You should be the owner and the owner should have rwx permissions.

Or perhaps the ~/.fonts file already exists, but with the wrong owner or permissions. Once again, you should be the owner and the owner should have rwx permissions.

Right - I used to use my sister's old laptop (she upgraded, and gave me her old one) so when I bought a new one and migrated my files I created a new username that conflicted with the old one. It was a jumble, and for me fell under the rubric of "don't know how to fix, so will ignore." With you guys' help I just put it right, and Calibre works now. Thanks so much for your assistance!
