Das ist wohl wirklich ein schlechter Scherz!

Genauso wie es einem Kunden gestattet ist Bücher aus dem Ausland zu beziehen, muß es auch möglich sein seine eBooks daher zu beziehen.

So langsam bekomm ich den "Blues", wenn das so weiter geht. Als wäre es noch nicht schlimm genug, dass sich viele Verlage im deutschsprachigen Raum derzeit so unfähig gebärden! Bin seit Anfang des Jahres auch schon ein paar Mal auf diese Restriktionen gestoßen, konnte dies aber durch Adress-Trickserei und Paypal-Bezahlung bisher noch weitgehend ignorieren. Als nächstes kommen dann Regionalcodes, Geolocating vor dem Download, Fingerprintabgabe, Download nur gegen DNS-Probe und was weiß ich nicht noch.
Dann verlier ich irgendwann mit Sicherheit die Lust überhaupt noch eBooks käuflich zu erwerben und lese mich erstmal komplett durch die über 10000 Titel hier bei MR.

Irgendwie traurig - sie wehren sich mit Händen und Füßen gegen Foren in denen Bücher zum download angeboten werden (ich hab mir sagen lassen: in toller Qualität, mehrfach kontrollgelesen und drm-frei) - und statt den Leuten dann die Gelegenheit zu geben, Werke einfach auf legalem Weg zu erwerben versuchen die das Kauferlebnis aus jedem möglichen Winkel zu torpedieren... wo ist da der Geschäftssinn?

Na, mal sehen, wann Verlagsangebote wie meines irgendwann nicht mehr zugelassen werden. Ohne DRM und Regionalcode? Das kann doch nicht astrein sein. Die armen Autoren. Denkt der denn gar nicht an die?
Bestimmt redet der noch mit seinen Kunden ... man kennt solche Typen ja.

Was soll man über die Lernresistenz der Buchverlage denken? Soll man genervt sein, frustriert, fassungslos? Soll man den Garantiefall für seinen Reader riskieren, weil man ihn am liebsten den Verantwortlichen um die Ohren schlage möchte, um etwas Vernunft in deren Entscheidungen zu prügeln?

Zu hoffen bleibt nur, dass das eBook so viel an "Marktkraft" besitzt, um sich bei den Kunden trotz der Widernisse durch die Industrie zu behaupten. Tss, ich bekomm vom Kopfschütteln langsam einen Muskelkater ...

UM GOTTES WILLEN, MANN! Für so etwas gibt es Bücher! Und wer ausreichend Auswahl bei sich zu Hause oder in der nächsten Bibliothek hat, kann sogar die Schadensklasse und Auftreffgeschwindigkeit anhand der Parameter Gewicht und Größe frei wählen. :-P

Ja, da sieht man es mal wieder. Die Großen dürfen alles (siehe Google-Scanaktion) und den Kleinen hängt man. Denn das Umgehen und Beseitigen von Kopierschutzmaßnahmen sowie Mißachten von Urheberrechten steht unter Strafe.

Warum mach ich es nicht wie Google? Ich sollte mir alles kopieren/scannen was mir in die Hände fällt, ohne Rücksicht auf Copyright bzw. Urheberrechten.
Natürlich steht bei mir auch nur der Erhalt wertvoller Kulturwerke durch Digitalisierung für mich und die Allgemeinheit im Vordergrund.

Ich habe noch keinen EbookReader, aber irgendwie wird auch mein EbookHype in den letzten Wochen immer gedämpfter nach diesen ständigen schlechten Nachrichten. Vielleicht hole ich mir doch lieber zum eLesen ein Netbook. Dadrauf ist sicher Platz genug für sämtliche Software um ein in den USA gekauftes ebook DRM frei lesen zu können. Ich frage mich wirlich, ob sich ein Ebook für einen Nicht-Bücher-Sammler (kein Platz-Familie) lohnt? Meine neuen Bücher verkaufe ich über Ebay oder kaufe dort gebrauchte, was meine Bücherkosten als Vielleser deutlich reduziert, was wohl mit Ebooks nicht möglich sein wird. Andererseits soll man über Amazon Großartig Britannien den Sony für 210 Euro bekommen .... Ich warte mal ab, ob das stimmt oder ob es Haken (Garantie?) gibt.

Och, sie machen nur (genau) das gleiche, was die restliche Medienindustrie bereits getan hat. Ich glaube nicht, dass es (nur) Unfähigkeit von Seiten der Manager ist - mehr ein Versuch, den eBook-Markt kaputt zu machen, bevor er entsteht. Dann können sie weiter in Ruhe auf tote Bäume setzen.

Verschwörungstheorie? Sicherlich. Aber die Alternative ist Unfähigkeit auf Seiten der Verlage - möchte ich auch nicht unbedingt annehmen

Ich reihe mich hier mal in den Thread mit ein. Ich wollte heute bei Ficitonwise 2 Bücher kaufen, aber man ließ mich nicht, weil meine Rechnungsadresse in Deutschland ist. Wo bekomme ich denn jetzt noch englischsprachige Ebooks her? Habt ihr einen Tipp für mich?

Wenn Du auf SciFi stehst, ist www.webscription.net eine Superadresse mit sehr zivilen Preisen (und die meckern auch nicht wegen nichtamerikanischer Rechnungsadresse rum)
Einen ziemlich großen Teil der Bücher, die über Webscription vertrieben werden, findest Du übrigens auch (ganz offiziell!) kostenlos im Netz. Zum Beispiel auf Joe Buckleys Seite

Also ich habe letztens "World without end" von Ken Follett bei Waterstones gekauft. Hat sehr unkompliziert funktioniert und mit gut 7 £ ist das Buch halt einfach deutlich günstiger als die 25 €, die hierzulande dafür verlangt werden...

Zum Thema:
Ich habe auch das Gefühl, dass die Verlage mit allen Mitteln gegen eBooks kämpfen. Anders kann ich mir auch die Preispolitik nicht erklären. Bei einer Diskussion, die ich letztens mit einem Mitarbeiter eines großen Verlages hatte, hat dieser mir von den hohen Kosten der eBook-Erstellung und der Einführung der neuen Technik vorgejammert, die dazu führen, dass die Kosten von eBooks denen gedruckter Büchern entsprechen. Ich halte diese Argumentation allerdings für ziemlich absurd, da (neuere) Bücher allen Verlagen bereits digital vorliegen und sämtliche Kosten für Papier, Druck, Lagerung, Transport etc. vollständig entfallen.
Meiner Meinung bleibt nur darauf zu hoffen, dass Amazon mit dem Kindle den deutschen Markt ordentlich in Bewegung bringen wird, so dass auf Grund der starken Konkurrenz dem dt. Buchhandel nichts anderes übrig bleibt als sich zu bewegen...
