Palm gives LifeDrive a new spin with Limited Edition

Palm hopes to take a big bite out of the European PDA market with a special packaging of its LifeDrive. The LifeDrive Showtime Limited Edition includes the Philips SBC HS520, a 24k gold-plated ear plug, and bonus video software for converting and watching videos and DVDs on the LifeDrive. Details on various European Palm sites: Palm Great Britain, Palm Netherlands, Palm Spain.

I don't know how much the gold-plated earplug will affect things, I think it's kinda frivolous.

I like the idea of bundling software and knowledge about video conversion with the Lifedrive. It's what will bring the Lifedrive's fullest capabilities to the normal person instead of trying to woo the uber-geek. Then the Lifedrive might appeal to more people and then Palm could move some of these stagnant units. Dropping the price might help, $50-$100 will go a long way toward moving some of these units, too. Every now and again Apple will rev. up their iPods, for instance, and simultaneously drop prices and they move more units. Palm can learn a lot from companies like Apple.
