@NiLuJe,
Since I got the Kobo Forma, with last few firmwares, I was pleasantly surprised to see that dithering of cover thumbnails is much improved. I don't think I've seen this being discussed so far. |

@jackie_w: That's good to know, as I was intending to revisit all this whenever I get my hands on a Forma .

@NiLuJe: thanks for the info and for the link! I wasn't talking about screenshots, actually, but about what I was seeing in the Device tab in Calibre when my Kobo was connected to my computer. All the books uploaded on the device/downloaded from the Kobo server after I updated to this firmware version (the latest before the Forma releases, definitely more recent than 4.2) show a BGR cover, as you described. It might be a change in how the device communicates with Calibre, then? I'll try taking screenshots later and see what is actually on the device, as I obviously can't see any difference on the screen.

@mathil: Ah, right, my Kindle habits mean that I basically forgot about the extra features I'm not used to having in the Devices tab, so I never actually end up using it much .
I can't really say how that actually ends up behaving as far as this is concerned, since my whole library is grayscale & dithered . But, as another data point, I just checked the on-device store (I'm on FW 4.9), and it does things right: stuff is either grayscale, or in the "right" pixel format (for the device ). It's kind of hard to catch in action, since I'm using fbgrab to take screenshots, and it also does things right by putting things back in the right pixel format, so I'm actually getting a coherent RGB png that looks fine on an LCD screen . I can't vouch for Nickel's own screenshot capture, since I've never used it . Last edited by NiLuJe; 12-03-2018 at 07:48 PM. |
