Unknown error when importing library
So, this is essentially my first time importing a Calibre Library from an old computer to a new one. I've run into an unknown error. I perused https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq...ter-to-another as well as threads in this forum for answers. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any.
Here, very briefly, are the steps I took: 1. On old computer: Calibre Library --> Import/Export all calibre data 2. Copied the metadata folder to an external drive. 3. Plugged the external drive to the new computer. 4. Downloaded the latest version of Calibre Library 5. On new computer: Calibre Library --> Import/Export all calibre data 6. Selected the correct folder with the metadata. 7. Could not select the folder 'Documents/Calibre Library' because it "was not empty" 8. Created a sub-folder 'Documents/Calibre Library/Library 9. Imported the library (takes a few minutes), then an error message appears: "Failed to import data. Click "Show Details" for more information. 10. Click 'Show Details' 11. It reads: Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\dialogs\exim.py", line 140, in fun_action File "site-packages\calibre\utils\exim.py", line 360, in import_data WindowsError: [Error 5] Access is denied I have tried the process two times now with exactly the same result. Anybody here have some advice? |

I solved it.
For those who may have run into the same problem: The FAQ page advises that, in the event you try to import you library and when Calibre Library restarts (automatically) with a blank library, you should: "To remedy this, do a right-click on the calibre icon in the calibre toolbar and select Switch/create library. Click the little blue icon to select the new location of your calibre library and click OK. If you don’t know the new location search your computer for the file metadata.db." However, this advice may not work (it didn't work for me) if it reads "Calibre Library" as 'not empty.' Instead, simply select the option to use the original folder as the library directory (to be clear, this 'old folder' is just the folder with all the imported files). This appears to have worked for me. I'm not sure if it will cause additional problems when I try to add to this library, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. |

Also, be sure to run the program as administrator.
