So basically, the only difference between the awful 1 bit onyx m96 and the Dasung Paperlike is the amount of voltage you put in? The more voltage, the faster, even in 4 bit mode? The paperlike is powered by USB, and that's just it? Man, why can't all e-reader work like that. Give me at least the possiblity to do it If I want to!

I heard bad things about the Onyx A2 refresh mode, but I'm not sure if I've got that right. Someone said it wasn't as good as the Nook ST A2 mode, but I could be wrong about that. I browse very well on a Nook ST with A2 mode (but you have to frig it. It's not for everyone). As I said, you can install A2 on a Sony T1/2 that is supposed to work very well. Personally I turn images off.
Sadly the e-ink monitor is not out there yet (unless you get a Dasung). All I can suggest is you avoid using LCD whenever possible. Get out more. Your eyes are telling you to reduce use of screens. I avoid using LCD for fun. It's for work only (almost). Go for a walk or buy a paperback Last edited by Rizla; 04-03-2015 at 10:52 AM. |

Since two weeks, no more computer at home.
I do 35 hours a week, in total. still, very inconfortable. I still need to sleep 1 hour in the middle of the day to release the pain. How much would you pay to stop having to sleep 1 hour in the middle of the day for the rest of your life? Dasung will save me whenever then release their monitor. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=256203 Have you considered Flicker-free and Low-Blue-Light BenQ monitors ? http://www.benq.com/microsite/eye-care-monitors/ff.html http://www.benq.com/microsite/eye-ca...itors/lbl.html or maybe using some projector http://www.cnet.com/news/projectors-...pros-and-cons/ http://www.cnet.com/news/dlp-vs-lcd-...pros-and-cons/ There were also 6" and 10" reflective epaper like lcd tablets with Marisol and Pixel Qi screens (reflective mode uses just ambient light), so maybe getting a used one would be good idea for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iB1ZmKFGBpk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWEqszZ7Hx8 Last edited by markom; 04-03-2015 at 03:56 PM. |

Thank you for the suggestions
I already bought 2 pixel Qi 1024x600. They are very good, though quite dark, and low res. I tried a projector: after 30 minutes I had eyes fatigue. Don't understand why, I'd expect the light to be far less agressive than a LCD. I tried a special 32 inch Benq, supposelly soft on the eyes, and I used it sitting 1.5 meters away. Could not stand it either. |

I also bought the 13.3 sony reader, just for the browser. 1000$, without the shipping, and the proxy buyer I had to pay for it in Japan.
Still waiting for it. I'm spending a fortune on devices that won't be near as good as the Dasung. |

RE: 8" would then be a small step forward
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=256203 I'd be curious about this software. I wonder if 1) its fast 2) if I could be install on other e-ink devices. The speed is the key issue though. Based on the discussion below, I'd be surprised to find out it's faster than most readers. Last edited by eturgeon; 04-03-2015 at 04:28 PM. |

Can't you buy a Dasung? From what I read, they seem to be for sale.
http://www.dasung.com.cn/ http://www.e-ink-info.com/dasung-paperlike Start a thread here on how to buy one and get it delivered to your address. Also maybe ask Nate at the-digital-reader. If they are for sale in China or Korea, it should be possible to find a 3rd-party who will forward it to you. And then write a review for us and we can all salivate. I promess to do a review If I can get one. I'd even do a youtube video.
However, it's pretty difficult. They don't sale outside China. And I have been trying to buy from 3rd parties for weeks. So far, no success. It's even difficult to know if they actually sale those in China itself at the current time. The website is in test mode, I don't think it's even possible to do a transaction. After watching this video again, now I'm afraid of something. Even though the image refresh rate is crazy fast, is it just me, or the delay between the laptop screen and the e-ink display is troubling? Does that mean that we will experience a small lag when typing or dragging the mouse? Even a 500 ms delay for a mouse is very very problematic, because you don't know where your cursor is yet, so you end up stopping your mouse movement and realize afterwards you're 200 pixels off from where you were aiming. I know that because I already implemented a software that allows me to use my Onyx m96 9.7'' as a monitor. So I'm wondering, is there some sort of buffering mecanism that allows the display to render the images very fast, but still with a lag for the mouse/keyboard? EInk screens have the ability to update only a small area of the screen, and this can be done very quickly indeed. That could be used for a mouse pointer.
