Hubby is home. He removed the battery and now it chirps every 30 seconds. He ran to the store to get a new 9 volt.
I got ear plugs in till it gets fixed. Cats are hiding. Update: Blessed silence! New battery cost $6 but it fixed it. Five year warranty. Sent from my XT1528 using Tapatalk Last edited by Blossom; 07-27-2016 at 09:11 AM. |

Sometimes smoke detectors beep because the UNIT is too old, tho the battery may be fine. They have a built in expiration, these days ..... I guess the (whatever) that does the detecting can age, and no longer do the proper function.

Most cars won't achieve that, but in general, reliability has increased over the decades as manufacturers have learned that customers will pay for quality. Detroit's "planned obsolescence" of the 50's is a thing of the past. And service on current cars is a much different matter than it once was. The car has a raft of sensors and microprocessors communicating over a local network, and when a service call is required, the mechanic can plug a computer into a diagnostic port, and the car will say what it's problem is. It's a far cry from the days of the "Gus Wilson's Model Garage" feature in Popular Mechanics magazine, where crafty old mechanic Gus used experience and cute tricks to determine just what the car's problem was before he went in to make a fix. ______ Dennis |

Yea, kind of like a good cigar. But I'm still prone to enjoy one occasionally.

One of them discovered the hard way he couldn't win. The intended location for his newest and biggest model was an attic rec room, but the model he bought would not fit up the stairs, and he had to content himself with a smaller model that could actually be maneuvered into the space. ______ Dennis |

What? He didn't "Tear down this wall!", in order to fit it in? What kind of nouveau riche would let something like that stop him?

Or something.
I heard a story on those lines years back about a guy who bought a fancy European sports car. He went on vacation, and his friends decided to play with his head. He lived in a multi-story apartment building with balconies and wide French doors opening onto the balconies. A friend had a key to his apartment, He let himself in, and opened the doors wide. The others had hired a crane, which picked up the car and hoisted it in through the doors. The chap returned from his vacation to find his car sitting in the middle of the floor in his living room... ______ Dennis |

Someone over there had bought a new, big car. The houses there don't have any garages, except for two on the end of the street. That guy had been blabbering that he was very worried that his big expensive car would be stolen. He talked about that to anyone who would listen. (Including me, even though I'm not interested in cars... driving one with my poor eyesight would probably be a criminal offense.) He drove everybody around crazy with his tales of doom. One day that guy went on vacation, having himself driven to the airport, because he wouldn't want his car parked at the airport, of course. His friends and/or family then also hired a crane, and had his car hoisted straight over the house into his back yard. It goes without saying that this person wasn't too pleased when he came home, as we've heard rants about it around the neighborhood for months afterward Last edited by Katsunami; 07-27-2016 at 04:58 PM. |

When I was in high school the Principal bought a VW beetle, the old rear engine kind (yes I really am that old). As a prank, the football team carried it to the second floor of the school and deposited it in the hallway outside of his office.
It took the entire faculty (including the football coach) to get it back down. |
