Sorry to hear that samhy. Such a frightening and frustrating thing to happen to a family member, as you feel so helpless to do anything after the event (I have had something similar happen to my brother, in which they stole his car and he got injured in the process). The needless violence is the worst aspect of it, in my opinion.

I hope all is well after tomorrow's examination.

There shouldn't be an issue. At first we were thinking to go to the ER just after the police station but the officer warned us that January 1st was a bad day to go there and we would likely be waiting there until midnight (it was 5:30 pm then). So without headaches or blurred vision, it was really up to my brother. The appointment tomorrow instead of today is because he slept in this morning. So if he was really worried, he would have called the unit at the crack of dawn. Yet it's always better to hear reassuring words from specialists.

Regarding the violence, it's as if it's a natural response. So baffling.

samhy, so sorry and shocked to hear what happened to your brother. I never could understand why some people feel they can just do as they please and/or take what they want. I hope all will be well with your brother.

Sorry about the troubles, Samhy. It's always so extra shocking when violence happens to someone you know. Besides the pain, fear, and expense, it rocks our belief that this sort of thing won't happen to us. Here's hoping that the Medical staff give an A-OK to your brother.

Not much of a rant, but with all the entertainment options it's nice to see the Blumhouse Productions has made it easy for me to eliminate one production company from movies I will watch by spamming MobileRead.

Samhy, I'm so sorry for your brother, you and your family. I hope he's okay.

Today there was a news item on Dutch tv that in the last couple of years more and more under 16s are robbing people. They aren't even doing it for the booty but for kicks and because they egg each other on.

My own rant:
It feels like I'm having an urinary infection.

Thank you everyone for your kind words.

He saw the doctor in the morning, but after 48 hours there wasn't much he could say except "you should be fine" which was kind of expected. His hand doesn't hurt anymore and the bruise on his temple is getting smaller.

I think the basic idea is that such is life. However I still believe that our lives, all of us, don't have to be ruled by violence or fear (yep, I still live in a wonderland

).

Hopefully I won't have to rant or vent on anything in a long time

We have an infestation here, something called "The Knockout Game," in which young men (teens, it seems) run up to some unsuspecting older person, usually from behind, mind you, and smash them in the head, knocking them to the ground or unconscious. These attacks are videotaped, replete with the laughing thugs, and put up on YouTube and other video-sharing sites. It seems to be prevalent in major cities, at the moment, but who knows when it will migrate to smaller ones?

This will rather sooner than later go f*d up (as in unlucky falling or brittle health of the victim) having the idiots responsible for it facing a process because of manslaughter.
Will certainly make the game unpopular.
