LITERATE
HELP, I got a Sharper Image Literate for Xmas and it was a piece of junk but before I realized it I bought a couple books from KOBO as that is what the Literate runs on. I sent it back and bought a Kindle 3. I really like it and the battery life is a tad longer than the Literate(7 hours maximum). That is a good reason right there to not get a Literate anyway my question is ,, How do I
get my books on my Kindle 3 that I still have on my KOBO account on my PC??? Can anyone help?? |

Well, some folks download the books from kobobooks.com in ePUB format, remove the Adobe DRM, and then use Calibre to convert the books to .mobi and transfer the books that way. If you are new to all of this, you may have to do a bit of detective work to figure out the DRM part.

Yes, I'm new to the E-Reader world. The Literate was my first and it was junk, I'm puter savy but need to read up on the converting issue, where would I start my homework?

Some, including Cory Doctorow of BoingBoing, would say that a search for Apprentice Alf might be a good start.

I went through the process of figuring this out over the weekend, but I don't know how much can be said about it without getting in trouble on the forum. Basically, go to the Apprentice Alf blog, grab the Kindle Tools archive, and start reading the README files in it. I also got some knowledge from this forum based on people's vague tips and discussions. In the end it was really easy.
