New to Nook - Question marks in sentences???

Is there a way to disable question marks appearing in the middle of sentences and at the end for no reason. I'm a bit lost and just downloaded my first book. Help.

Did you download this book from B&N or from another source?

If the book was bought/downloaded from Barnes & Noble, then you should contact B&N with the issue. Hopefully they will alert the publisher of the ebook and (maybe) get a new version up.

The problem is with the ebook in question, not so much the nook itself (probably). Either an incorrect encoding was used somewhere during the book's creation (in which case there may be ?'s where emdashes and the like should be), or the ebook include special characters that don't exist in the nook's font (in which case the ?'s will happen within words)..

I've seen people post issues like this on the official B&N forums, and an administrator (Michael_V) usually forwards the issue to their content people.

Personally, I've only seen this sort of thing in books free books — from B&N and elsewhere— in particular, scanned books from Google Books or internet archive with some poor sort of OCR in place.

Yeah, what's the book? Just because it came from B&N doesn't mean it wasn't a poorly scanned, dusty hardback from the Yale Library with OCR errors. Usually the new stuff is clean because it's the same digital text that the print copy gets (in theory).

I've see the ? and other weird symbols as replacement for special characters like umlaut. In one case, I sideloaded a Word document where the quotation marks were non-standard and I saw weird symbols replacing them. I have seen this on ebooks bought from BN also.
