New to this, just bought a SmartQ 7

First let me say hello to everyone, I am new to this and I am really hoping that someone here can help me. I bought a SmartQ 7 and finally recieved it three days ago, the problem is that I have not been able to use it. First I had problems w/ connecting to my wireless network, I figured that out but now there is some issue with Midori web browser, it keeps coming up w/ an error telling me that the file or directory does not exist (Error stating file'/usr/share/doc/midori/user/midori.html':No such file or directory). I have emailed the company directly as well as the company I bought it from, and another site that mentions some knowledge of this device, the only thing I have been told is to reflash the device, the problem is that I do not know how to reflash it. I would greatly appreciate any help in this situation. I am sorry that my first introduction is a request for help but I really need to be walked through this. Thanks in advance, to any on willing to help me.

Thumbs up Thanks for the advice

It took more time than I had hoped but I did manage to fig my problem. I just was not using the right tool to unzip the files, my computer has an extracting tool but apparently not the right one. Now I just have to figure out how to or if I can get the barnes and noble ebook reader program for my device. Thanks again. -Kristina

What is your definition of "better"? Do you prefer a 5" screen or 7" screen?

I might be a bit late, but it really depends on what you want.

The SmartQ V5 has a 4.3" (not 5") screen with better colors and contrast than the SmartQ 7. It's also faster (same speed as the SmartQ V7) and supports HD videos.

However, for serious reading, the SmartQ 7 is vastly superior. The added screen size does matter. Battery life is also a big plus, ditto for the front buttons.

Anyway, here is my full review of the SmartQ 7:
SmartQ 7 review

There's an older one of the SmartQ 5 (the size is comparable to the SmartQ V5, speed to the Q7) at:
SmartQ 5 review

I'd say that the smaller versions are ideal to kill some time and do quick tasks on the go. You just pull those out of your pocket. The SmartQ 7/V7 is more comfortable to read on the couch or something.

And I'll try to review the V5 as soon as possible. Which comes down to: as soon as I receive it and if I still have time to review it before my vacation

@ChineseGadgets,

Didn't the new firmware come out for the Q5 and Q7, overclocking their processors to 800MHZ?

Those did come out lately and speed up the devices a little.

But the Q5 and 7 don't have hardware decoding, so video playback still doesn't work properly.

According to Dave @ Chronolytics the supplied version of MPlayer supplied does! "There are hardware accelerators for H.263, H.264, MPEG4 and VC-1 (WMV9) decode." NB. but only for the baseline versions so perhaps a good reason not to update MPlayer.
