Sony vs Kobo; What's up!
Have a T1 and, before that, a 505 and for the last year or so have been buying my eBooks from Kobo and been able to upload them to my T1 no sweat but that stopped yesterday.
I bought the new Michael Connelly book (Gods of Guilt) from Kobo but could not download it to my laptop or directly to my T1 via WiFi. Called Kobo customer support and they told me I couldn't load that Kobo book onto my Sony. Anybody know what this is? Are all Kobo books now non usable on Sony? Never had this problem before. BTW, I was able to go on the Sony site and buy and download the book to my T1. And Kobo is refunding me the money I paid for the non-Sony readable book. |

Some Kobo books aren't available through ADE but only through Kobo's own software/devices. These usually have the file extension .kepub.
They are essentially ePubs, but with different DRM, a different extension, and fiddled about a bit by Kobo. |

Thanks pdurrant. That explains that.
Meanwhile, is there an easy way to tell if a Kobo book is regular ePub or not? Thanks |

I've been grabbing previews before I buy. If you check your Library page in your Kobo account it tell you if it's an Adobe epub.

Using an old browser, such as IE8, will give you the old Kobo site instead of the new. The old site will show what downloadable format, if any, is available for a given book.

If Kobo starts doing kepubs on all their books, I won't be buying from them anymore. I hate kepubs!
