Ectaco shows off the Jetbook K12 and K12 Color at Book Expo
http://goodereader.com/blog/e-reader...-at-book-expo/
jetBook K-12 video: During Book Expo America 2011 we managed to get a brief look at the new Jetbook K12 and K12 Color from Ectaco. The Jetbook K12 is billed as an educational e-reader with tons more functionality then previous models that Ectaco has released. They also were showing off the massively interesting K12 Color. Sadly right now it is only available in Russia and the Ukraine. The K12 is a total student device aimed at the highschool crowd. It comes with all sorts of SAT and ACT prep course material, crossword puzzles, math and science reference books, and an interactive course in US History and Facts. Its also got built-in books from 50 State Reading Lists. Ectaco also briefly showed as the K12 Color e-reader which looked much akin to the Hanvon 9.7 inch color e-reader we saw at CES. This one is a students device on crack! It logs you in and out of the school as you are in the specific geo-location. It will have notes and dictionary functions! It is being billed as a more advanced device and is only available in the Motherland (Russia) I didn't find information about color e-book reader on jetBook K-12 website http://www.jetbookk12.com/ Hope it will be available soon. |

Thanks Kris!
I would prefer my jetBook Lite to any of these newer models. It's not clear to me what the sales pitch of the K12 is, other than its pre-loaded texts relevant to high school students. When will we hear about the jetBook+? |

that is Hanvon's model with Ectaco branding. Thats interesting since they say it will only be available in China for now, which is Hanvon's market to begin with. Why would Hanvon do that?....

Picture of the K-12 with colors showing (stolen from the thread in the Jetbook Forum.)
If it'd support all the usual jetBook formats (and perhaps CHM added to the list) it looks like what I have been waiting for in a larger format color eReader. Why Russia/Ukraine only? That screenshot is in english so it can't be a translation thing. |

Their version of a capitalist market place is much newer than most, so there could be fewer hurtles in the way, and fewer palms to grease. Ectaco has been very active in that market for a long time and are relatively well established, there. They have the connections with the academic bureaucracy, from some of their previous projects in the area. Luck; Ken |
