Calbre is Crashing
Hi, I'm having a problem with Calibre constantly crashing. It seems to be unable to read my kindle content. It does recognise that the kindle is attached though:
calibre.exe has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. The error message is below: calibre, version 2.26.0 ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device Failed to get children from device: hr=2147944029 facility=7 error_code=1629 description: Data supplied is of wrong type. Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 87, in run File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 503, in _books File "site-packages\calibre\devices\mtp\driver.py", line 208, in books File "site-packages\calibre\devices\mtp\driver.py", line 180, in get_driveinfo File "site-packages\calibre\devices\mtp\windows\driver.py", line 267, in filesystem_cache WPDError: Failed to get children from device: hr=2147944029 facility=7 error_code=1629 description: Data supplied is of wrong type. If someone could help me with this I would be really appreciate it. Thank you. |

Also, my kindle content has not changed so I don't see a reason for the message saying "Data is of the wrong type"

@EvM1 - I don't think this error has anything do with with the errors you had in the past - So I moved it to a new topic. It's better to create a new topic for a new problem - otherwise people will tend to answer your old problems. BR |

I reset the Kindle to factory settings. It added about 20 files at first and then told me there was not enough room. This can't be because all 1406 files were on the kindle before this started happening. Also I have 64GB. Now when I try to add my content again I get an " error connecting to device" message.
When I click on 'Device' to look at those files that have copied across, there is nothing listed. |

Then your Kindle hardware is dying. You can probably get some more life out of it by only putting a few books at a time on it and/or using the wireless interface to put books on the device.

It is possible you received a defective device. If so, you should return it under warranty.

FWIW Engineers have a term
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathtub_curve Way back when... we used to burn in (powered up and active) all electronics in in rooms that were near the maximum operating design (~120F) for 48-72 hours, before a 'Final Test' to release to Shipping. Today, only HiRel items gets that (and more) treatment |
