Wenn schon Kopierschutz, dann doch bitte wenigstens den Quasi-Standard ADEPT von Adobe und nicht so einen Quatsch.
Apple könnte auch sagen: Ja, die Verlage wollen das bestimmt auch, das ist ein gutes Scheinargument um unter der Decke unser geschlossenes System durchzustetzen. Wäre ja noch schöner, wenn jemand die über uns bezogenen eBooks auf Geräten der "Konkurrenz" lesen könnte.

Diese Vermischung von Content und Verteilung in einer Hand ist m.E. für eBook-Konsumenten eine sehr unglückliche Entwicklung. Hoffentlich hält diese Entwicklung nicht allzu lange an...

Konzerne, seien es nun Verlegler oder Vertriebler, sind per se weder gut noch böse (Naja, zumindest die meisten). Ihr Daseins-Zweck ist Geldverdienen, und wie jeder brave Marktteilnehmer weiß, geht das am Besten aus einer Monopol-Position heraus. Ob Sie dafür mit Ebooks handeln müssen, Musikdateien, Druckerpatronen oder Schuhlöffeln ist ihnen egal.

Aus User-Sicht ist es natürlich sehr nervig, dass jede Branche angeblich ihren eigenen Lernprozess hat. Persönlich denke ich, es ist ihnen allen klar, dass sie sich irgendwann auf einen Standard einigen müssen, sie wollen nur aus der Übergangsphase noch soviel wie möglich rausholen. Zum einen direkt Geld, zum anderen eine bessere Position im neuen, standardisierten Markt.

Ich kann nur hoffen, dass diese Konsolidierungsphase nicht allzu lange dauert. Ich merke nämlich an mir, dass der Reiz des Neuen nachlässt, und damit meine Bereitschaft, grösseren Aufwand für neues Lesefutter zu betreiben (registriere dich hier, konvertiere dort, nutze verschiedene Verwaltungsprogramme parallel, dazu paypal, Kreditkarte, blubb, ....). Ich hätte e-reading jetzt gerne tatsächlich so bequem und günstig, wie es überall beworben wird

Das entscheiden zum Glück die Konsumenten. Und diese Marktmacht sollte ihnen auch bewusst sein. Egal, ob bei Apple, Amazon oder sonst wo.

Amazon hat eines bewiesen: Die Leser wollen eBooks. Die Leser kaufen eBooks. Jedes System, das jetzt nicht erfolgreich ist, kann nicht mit dem Argument kommen "die Leute wollen ja gar nicht". Das ist passé!

Also, sollte iBooks mit Fairplay floppen, liegt es am Konzept, nicht am Markt.

In dem Fall liegt es vielleicht auch an der Hardware. Ein iPad ist durch das LCD-Display und den Akku nicht das optimale Lesegerät. Es wäre schon fatal, wenn man die Bücher nicht auf ein reines Lesegerät verschieben könnte (am besten mit Synchronisation). Insofern schießt sich Apple mit dem eigenen DRM selbst ins Bein.
Dabei verstehe ich sehr gut, daß sie keine Lust haben, an Adobe Lizensgebühren zu zahlen oder denen gar den Support für deren Adept-DRM zu überlassen, das kann nur unzufriedene Kunden erzeugen.

Schade, daß es Apple nicht schafft, von Anfang an eine wirklich kundenfreundliche Lösung zu präsentieren. Vielleicht überlege ich es mir selbst auch noch mal, es gibt ja jetzt das PB 302 mit der Anbindung an Bookland. Ich vermute aber mal, daß die Verlage, deren Bücher mich interesssieren, alle bei iBook und textunes zu finden sein werden.

ich konnte Apple schon früher nicht leiden, und mittlerweile noch weniger. Man sollte doch meinen, sie hätten von itunes und DRM gelernt ....

Ich hab gerade neulich zu meiner Frau gesagt: Der Kunde ist König ? - Das ist schon lange vorbei. Mittlerweile ist der Kunde nur noch die Melkkuh ...

Richtig. Ich hatte mit meiner Bemerkung, "schade, daß es Apple nicht schafft…" zum Ausdruck bringen wollen, daß sie sich nicht gegen die Verlage durchsetzen konnten, die auf DRM bestehen.

Das ich Apple nicht leiden kann hat nichts mit DRM zu tun. Es sind andere Dinge, die mich stören.

So zum Beispiel die fest eingebaute Batterie bei iPdos und iPhones. Ich hatte schon ein Handy, bei dem der Akku nach kurzer Zeit kaputtging. Ich hab dann einen neuen Akku gekauft und alles ging problemlos. Wenn beim iPhone der Akku kaputt ist muß es eingeschickt werden - und soweit ich weiß ersetzt Apple den Akku nicht sondern schickt einfach ein neues Gerät - und vergrößert so den Müllberg.

Beim iPod ist es ja auch so: Wenn man einen iPod einschickt zum Akkutausch muß man vorher seine Musiksammlung und alle Daten sichern, da die ja verloren gehen. Aber mit iTunes geht das nicht, weil man da keine Daten vom iPod runterkopieren kann ...

Und dann: soweit ich weiß soll es für das iPad ein neues (bzw. modifiziertes) ebook Format geben ... wozu ? Als gäbe es nicht schon genug Formate. Beim iPod ist es auch so mit Hörbüchern. Die müssen ja auch vorher umgewandelt werden. Ich weiß noch das Chaos als ein technisch unbegabter Kollege von mir bat, ihm seinen iPod aufzuräumen ...

Das stimmt hinten und vorne nicht. Die Musik auf dem iPod ist nicht mehr DRM geschützt, die Alben befinden sich schön geordnet unter iTunes-iTunes Musik auf dem Rechner und können jederzeit bei Verlust des iPods auf einen neuen gezogen werden (ins Mediafenster von iTunes ziehen und sie werden in der gleichen Ordnung wie zuvor auf den iPod übertragen).

Ansonsten, wieso sollten die Daten bei einem Akkutausch verschwinden?

Der oder das iPad wird das Format ePub, also den von den meisten Verlagen genutzten "Standard" benutzen. Leider bei den Verlagen, die darauf bestehen, mit einem apple-eigenen DRM-Schutz. Apple hat den Verlagen nahegelegt, darauf zu verzichten, viele wollen das aber nicht tun. Habe das vor ca. 2 Tagen gelesen, muß die Quelle mal suchen, da das offenbar an Netseeker vorbeigerauscht ist.

Standard habe ich in Anführungszeichen gesetzt, weil davon ja keine Rede sein kann, wenn jeder seinen eigenen DRM benutzt. Das Adobe-DRM ist in seiner ersten Form viel zu scharf mit seinen 6 Rechten und durch den Support von Adobe ein Witz oder eher glatter Diebstahl. Aber Adobe hat ja jetzt eine weichere Variante herausgebracht, die auf die Rechtebegrenzung verzichtet. Es liegt an den Verlagen, welche Form sie nutzen. Apple wird aber auf keinen Fall Adobe wählen, mit denen führt Steve Jobs einen Kleinkrieg. Nicht mal deren Flash wird es auf dem iPad geben.

Ja. Aber ich suche noch die Quelle.

Bei Libri gibt es diese Option übrigens nicht. Ich habe mich dort beschwert, daß die 3 Hanserbücher, die es bei Libreka ohne DRM gibt, bei Libri nur mit DRM zu laden sind. Bei Libri wird alles verschlüsselt, war die Antwort, eine Entscheidung des Großhändlers.

Offensichtlich hat Libri nicht erkannt, dass "verschlüsseln" etwas anderes wie DRM ist. In diesem Fall steht ja nicht das "verschlüsseln" im Vordergrund sondern die eingeschränkten Verwendungsmöglichkeiten der eBooks durch den Käufer.

Aber das mit der "eine Entscheidung des Großhändlers" war das, worauf ich beim Fairplay anspielen wollte: Letztendlich liegt die Entscheidung bei Apple. Apple könnte auch sagen: Wir lassen nur DRM-frei zu. Aber das tut man aus wirtschaftlichem Eigeninteresse heraus nicht. Apple ist hierbei bzgl. DRM meiner Meinung nach unehrlich: Man schiebt die Schuld einfach komplett den Verlagen zu.

Bzgl. des Artikels, der an mir "vorbeigerauscht" ist: Wenn es der gleiche war, den ich auch gelesen habe, dann war es lediglich ein "rumour" von einer angeblich Apple-internen Quelle (bzw. zwei Quellen) aber kein offizielles Statement. Guck mal, ob du den Link noch findest - durchaus möglich, dass ich da was verpasst habe...
