Jetbook battery.

Does anyone know if the Jet-book battery is replaceable or if they can put a new one in for you. or do they just expect you to throw it out like Kobo?

Thanks

I have seen "kits" for sale for around 30$ where you could replace it.

I suspect that it will void any warranty if you open it up. So I'd wait till that is up.
Or I do believe that Ectaco has a "trade in" program also. But you'd have to talk to them about specifics.

Would love to see a "refurbish" program where you send them an older jetbook they put in a new battery, update the firmware, etc for a reasonable fee.

Mayhap you should look into the JetBook Lite? It uses easily replaced AAs, which can be rechargeables.

The battery can be replaced, but getting the case open (without damaging it) requires the right tools. Something similar to these; http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3006 (those are not the ones I used and might not be strong enough. I don't recall where I got mine.) There are screws under the rubber "feet" on the back. Remove those first (stick a needle into them from the side and pry up gently). Once open, the battery is rather simple to remove/replace.

Opening it will probably void the warranty though. I would contact Ectaco first, especially if it is still under warranty.

Thanks guys. I already have the Lite and was wondering about the Pro as it is currently cheaper than the Lite. I appreciate the link for the tools.
