Sand painting as performance art (way cool)
The Muffin Man found this online, and had to share it with me; similarly, I find I need to share it with all of you.
http://video.yahoo.com/watch/5771163?fr=yvmtf I confess I had trouble following the lyrics -- my spoken French isn't that good. If anyone would like to provide a summary in English, I'd be grateful. |

Beautiful video!
Unfortunately I can't help, at first it was German, then I believe it was Russian. Most of the soundtrack was by Apocalyptica, and the last piece was Apocalyptica's version of Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. The blurb on the side said it was a story of the German invasion and occupation of Ukraine during WWII. That woman is really gorgeous! |

WOW! Thank you for that.
I once saw a group of Tibetan monks create a mandala, and the title reminded me of that. This was nothing like that! |

Love it. Thank you, neko. The last thing she writes is Ты всегда рядом which is "You're always near". This was obviously quite moving for some in the audience.
I really like the idea of sand on a light box as a way to draw. It is so impermanent that the worry and hesitation that people (like me) have about making a bad mark is probably less for this than almost any other media. |

That's not sand drawing. That's the new Apple tablet. They've come a long way with the touch interface.
I can't imagine how much practice that took. |

I thought of it as a combination of painting and choreography, myself.
I thought I recognized part of the vocals as French, but I guess not. I think I just lost some linguist cred.... Then again, even without being able to understand the lyrics, the tone accompanied the story being told visually very well, I thought. |
