Arrow Sony PRS-600 Short Video Review and 505 comparison

Here's a short video review of the Sony PRS-600 eReader:

Here's a comparison vs. PRS-505:

Bad news is that Sony does NOT seem to have solved the contrast issues of the touch screen reader.

Considering that, would you prefer hunting for the remains of PRS-505 stock, or would you buy the PRS-600 anyway?

Nothing's wrong with the 600 as far as I can see. No big difference between the 505 and the 600 (at least for me) I would be a lot more interested in seeing how the ePubs are rendered (full justification) and how the dictionary is working!

what do you mean by 505 stock? have they decided to discontinue that model? AFAIK they still have them on sale on sony site and at other stores. the 700 is a different matter as they took them off from the site even before the 600 was announced. Am I wrong?

Sorry, that's just my guess that Sony will stop the production of 505. Was there any official statement that they will continue it (hopefully this will be cleared up in their Aug 25 press release/presentation) ?

At least the price of 505 becomes ludicrous, as you now virtually have to pay (for 505 compared to 600) more to get less features, but better screen.

update:
Oh, yeah, the price is a bit lower now.

yeah I agree about the price. having similar price for two products is probably not the best. However, I don't know if canceling the 505 is a good idea, since it is probably one of the most popular reader by far, and the most popular amongst sony readers. on top, with already complaints from others about 600 screen, you can see already some people canceled and opted for the 505 even though they were hoping to get the 600.

Having the 300 replace the 505 is also difficult as the screen size is smaller.

yet you are probably right, in the end I assume sony will stop production as they don't have any room to reduce the reader price with the 300 at $199 and 600 at $299...

As 700, the contrast ratio seems a bit low in 600, especially when comparing with 505 side by side.

Can't the 505be priced around $250, right in the middle?

BTW, thx for the video review. I've crossed the 600 off my 'possible' list. Still thinking seriously about the 300 (portability is key, and I just read novels on my Readers). I might go with a 300 if it feels right in person, or else pick upa cheap505 (so my gf can also have library access--her 500 is falling behind the curve, unless Sony issues an actual 500 firmware upgrade!).

for portability the 300 is good. just be aware that the edges are plastic (I remember someone commenting on it.) it may be that 505 build quality is a little better.

I am choosing the 600 because of the features - including the necessary ability to take notes. I would not have purchased the 505 nor the (Kindle). I need to import notes onto my computer to make a reading accessory useful enough to pay the price.

I was really looking forward to replacing my 505 with 600, but 600's contrast seems horrible on the video. I'd still love to have 600's dictionary though; I look up words a lot.
In case you haven't seen the dictionary in the works, this really comprehensive review will help you.

Look at these photos:

PRS-600 is much better than 700, and does not look that much worse than 505 on these pictures.
