Amazon accidentally leaks world's first small-screen Windows 8 tablet

The first-ever small-screen Windows tablet made a brief appearance on Amazon.com today, before quickly being yanked from the online retailer's e-shelves.

While Acer was busy showing off a smattering of large-screen Windows devices in New York Friday, the 8.1-inch Acer Iconia W3-810-1600 was briefly available for perusal in the digital realm. Why does that matter? Because all Windows 8 tablets released thus far have packed 10-inch or larger displays, as Microsoft's operating system was engineered before diminutive tablets like the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire became all the rage.

As opposed to the $362 16gb ipad mini without 3g?? What price would you think is reasonable for a fully functional mini-computer?

Exactly，this is much bigger bang for the buck then any iOS or Android tablet.

Maybe. We'll have to see how well it works when it releases. If it's technically capable of running all kinds of programs, but can only run them at a molasses pace, that I'd say it's less capable than a decent Android tablet. Plus, there's still the issue of few Windows programs working well with fingers.

I'd be very happy if it to works well - I've wanted a Windows tablet for ages - but at this price point it better be all that and a bag of chips for me to pick it over a functional Android tablet that's $200 cheaper.

You guys are forgetting that it costs at least $100 to get any kind of Windows Office all by itself.

I think it is interesting, but it would need a real keyboard and mouse on it for me to use Office.

Well, editing might not be too bad on strictly a tablet.

Actually the 8.1" tablets apparently all include MS office, even for regular Windows, not just for RT. But it would be a great deal even without it. You could use any old mouse and keyboard.

I use Office on an HP Envy x2. It's doable, but not comfortable. And forget it if you don't have a mouse connected. Trying to do anything with your fingers inside any of those applications is a real pain in the buttcrack.

I think that if you really want to use an office product for any serious work, it'd be better to connect a mouse and keyboard anyway. But at least with a windows 8 tablet, you get the opportunity to connect the same mouse + keyboard you use for your laptop or pc...

I have always used apple products and have just picked up my first android tablet (laugh if you must, its a Nook HD) but if I have a spare $380 (I bought the Nook as it was cheap) then I would spend it on a mini ipad, NOT a windows tablet.

I have no wish to enter the nightmare of Windows 8 until I have to, that means until my windows 7 laptop dies on me.

I use Pages and Numbers on my ipad, and Office Suite Pro on my Nook, and they both interact seamlessly with each other and my laptop via Dropbox. That's all I need.
