Free book (DRM-free MultiFormat) - Murder on the Mind [psychological suspense ]

Murder on the Mind, 1st in the Jeff Resnick mystery/thriller series by L.L. Bartlett, is temporarily free (may be pricematched in the other stores if it lasts long enough).

This was originally published by Five Star/Cengage (a small press which also publishes Lillian Stewart Carl's mysteries, among other things), and is now backlist e-published by the author over at Smashwords.

Author bio says she has praise from Romantic Times and an Agatha Award nomination, so these may be some form of romantic suspense.

Found via the autogenerated Twitter feed on the Smashwords bio page of backlist author Miriam Minger, who's got a historical romance novel free in this MR thread, and says that Bartlett's book is on time-limited promotion.

Description
A mugging leaves insurance investigator Jeff Resnick with a fractured skull, and graphic nightmares of murder. But when a local banker is found dead, Jeff believes the attack left him with a sixth sense, and finds himself probing into dangerous secrets that touch his own traumatic past.

Originally published by Five Star/Cengage. "A tightly paced story with a good kick at the end."--RT Magazine

Thanks! Good reviews on Amazon and Goodreads, looks like it's worth a try.

So much for not getting anymore ebooks till I've finished what I already have. I made that resolution yesterday...oh wait ..it was not to buy any, so technically I'm still ok.

Thanks for the heads up about it.

Thanks! - almost bought Murder on the Mind at Kobo last week but decided to wait; glad I did. Didn't luck out with the Miriam Minger though - I bought her full backlist at Kobo two weeks ago, but I'm not complaining

Nothing quite like a good murder to pass the time with. At least a good fictional murder anyway.

Although there are times when a real one could be quite satisfying

UK Kindle free book: Murder on The Mind (A Jeff Resnick Mystery)

free at Amazon.co.uk:
Murder on The Mind (A Jeff Resnick Mystery) by L.L. Bartlett
Quote:
Jeff Resnick hardly knew his well-heeled half-brother. But after suffering a fractured skull in a vicious mugging, he reluctantly accepts the fact that he has a long and brutal recovery to face—and his closest of kin can provide him with the time and place to do it.

Now, Jeff is haunted by unexplained visions of a heinous crime—a banker, stalked, killed, and eviscerated like a ten-point buck. When Matt Sumner’s murder is discovered, a still-recovering Jeff realizes this was what he had seen. Jeff must not only convince himself of his new-found psychic ability, but also his skeptical brother Richard Alpert. Since Sumner was Richard’s banker, both brothers have a stake in finding out what happened. With Richard’s reluctant help, Jeff’s investigation leads him to Sumner’s belligerent family and hard-nosed business associates, none of whom want him snooping around.

When Jeff discovers a second victim, he knows he must relentlessly chase his quarry even if it means risking his brother’s life.

"This is a high-powered drama filled with interesting characters that add dimension to a tightly paced story with a good kick at the end."
--Romantic Times

When Jeff Resnick begins to recover from a severe brain injury, he discovers he has the ability to sense past events --including a murder -- but nobody believes him. Resnick is a fine character, with a strong sense of right and wrong. This is a page-turner.
-- Barbara D’Amato, award-winning author of FOOLPROOF

"Put yourself in Jeff Resnick's shoes: You've suffered brain damage from a vicious mugging, and now you 'see' allegorical visions of murder in troubled nightmares and in even more troubling, conscious hallucinations. L. L. Bartlett does a wonderful job of showing us how difficult such a life can be as Jeff tries to overcome his own tragedy by using his new gift to investigate others. Beautifully written in a stark, spare style, MURDER ON THE MIND is a perfect choice for anyone open to a paranormal thread in a lovingly woven crime novel."
-- Jeremiah Healy, author of TURNABOUT and THE ONLY GOOD LAWYER:

L.L. Bartlett is a New York Times bestselling author.

Murder On The Mind was originally published in hardcover by Five Star/Cengage. Published in paperback by Worldwide Mystery Library.

Murder on the Mind

Murder on the Mind is NOT a romantic suspense or cozy mystery (although I write cozy mysteries under two other names) It's psychological suspense with a paranormal thread. (No vampires, zombies or werewolves. Jeff is just a tad psychic, but he uses his skills as a trained insurance investigator to help him solve crimes.)

If you'd like to see reader reviews, Amazon has 20 and 16 of them are five-star. Find them here: http://tinyurl.com/ydn7j3c

The second book in the series, Dead In Red, has reviews from Library Journal and Booklist.
