I HATE this time of year!by the solstice it is dark before 1600, and of course it isn't light until almost 8 in the morning. whenever I start feeling really sorry for myself, I think of the Canada... everyone is more north and darker than here. normally what gets me through the winters is teaching skiing but by all accounts we are to have a warm low snow winter

I read somewhere that it's based on the old Roman calendar, but I have no idea if DST is a part of it.

We don't have DS time in our state (Queensland). I think the states that do turned their clocks forward a couple of weeks ago. It'd be nice to have DS, to extend the evening beach time here. Unfortunately as well, the birds wake with the slightest of light in the east, and that can be before 4am in summer (the noise comes across from the headland east of us in a slow, brightening wave). We're lucky this year, in that we've neither Koel nor Blue-Faced "pluck-a-duck" bird nor Butcher Bird waking by our bedroom window.

Daylight saving time was first proposed in 1895 by George Vernon Hudson, a New Zealand entomologist ...
Good job it wasn't an antipodean who designed the pocket watch and other clocks - the hands would then have gone the other way around.... |

What annoys me the most is that Daylight Saving switching date now moves around. It used to be set so computer maufacturers automated it. Now the automatic setting and the real setting don't match.
This year I had 2 computers and 2 pocket pcs and a phone that I had to change. THEN about two weeks later they changed themselves and I had to change them back. Grr! |
