DRM problems
Hi all, I'm a complete Sony Ebook noob and I have a oroblem. I downloaded and transfered a book to my PRS650 and read it until I was almost finished then I had to close the reader and go about my other biz, however when I opened it again it tells me that book is DRM protected? how can this be , I have all ready started to read it??
I tried a reset and also tried a complete shutdown but to no avail. Any help would be great, Thanks, Geoff |

The only time I've seen this happen was with a public library ebook. I was able to read it beyond the due date, but at a certain point, either I turned off my PRS650 or connected it to my laptop and the DRM message came up. The legal options in that situation are:
1) Wait for it to be available to borrow again 2) Buy the ebook Or was this a book you purchased? If so, was it not possible to just delete it and reupload it to the Sony? If that doesn't work, you would have to contact the vendor who sold it to you. |

HI Mikau, yes it was a book I purchsed from Waterstones. For some reason it did not appear in the Reader Library, althoughit must have done in the first instance for me to transfer it to the Sony? Anyway I deleted it from the Sony and went back to Waterstones site and re-downloaded it, the download option was still there. It was only after I did this that I realised I may have now payed twice for the same book, anyway this one works fine so I wait in trepidation for my cred card statement. LOL.

When you buy a book it remains on the site available for download as many times as you need, you don't pay each time you download...

Another good reason to strip the DRM off any book you buy — or to not buy DRMed ebooks. |

Thanks all for the quick responses, so glad to hear I haven't wasted my hard earned cash. Now this DRM thing has me puzzled, how do I go about stripping it and where do I get DRM free ebooks???

As for buying them DRM-free to start with, that's trickier. The big publishers are currently all using DRM. It's only the smaller and specialist publishers that don't. Hopefully that will change over the next few years. |

This just happened to me. My 650 went from Sleep to Power Down (Off) on its own. After that, when I tried to open the book I was reading, I got the DRM message. I powered the reader OFF, and back on, and I could read the book, but it had lost its place in the book.
It seems there may be a bug in the firmware with powering the unit off. |

I was reading a book that I bought from the Sony store. When I got done I put the reader to sleep. I opened the book and got the DRM message. Powering off and on didnt help. Opening another book didnt help either. I removed the book, stripped the drm, and put it back on.

I have found, that if the Reader turns itself off (using Power management), I get this happening. Manually powering OFF (holding the slider for at least 4 seconds) and back on, allows me to read the book again, but it loses my bookmark.
I turned Power Management OFF. |
