Does anything negatively impact karma?

I was just curious. I know that as users we can only add to karma, which I think is probably for the best. But I thought I saw a negative trend on someone's karma/reputation bar and I wondered if anything else affects it, like adding someone to an ignore list (or for that matter, I wonder if adding someone to a "buddy" list has a positive effect on karma/reputation?)

If you click on karma, you'll see two options, I approve and I disapprove. If you disaprove, then you will lower someone's karma.

Nope. Only moderators can give out negative karma.

I just found out who got banned. I think it's sad. This guy has a good head on his shoulders and put out some good posts when he first started. It's a shame that the demons that were bugging him had to come here also. I just hope for his sake that he'll be able to keep them at bay. He is creative, I wish him a channel.

I think it's too bad, also, though I admit I'd just put him on "ignore." Not for the weird formatting, but for the constant negativity.

I remember being that negative at adolescence but I came out OK, not unscathed but OK. Rejecting the 'affirmed' is a form of research without doing the work and a way to beat prejudiced ideas. But one can not continue this way always. There are shades of gray.
