E Ink android smartphone could be the best reader yet

Onyx in China has just shown a prototype android smartphone with a capacitive touch E Ink display. Sounds like this could be a perfect pocketable ereader if and when it becomes available.

Wow, what's wrong with his amoled smartphone - my SGS i9000 works fine, sun or no.

I'm also fine with reading on amoled - if you choose white text on black bacjground. It has no backlight, so the black pixels are really black, and the brightness of the text white you can adjust by reducing display brightness or choosing a level of gray instead of white.

The e-reader is just more comfortable, bigger screen, longer battery life, and it actually looks the way it should (black on white instead of white on black).

This would make a great ereader, audiobook player, MP3 player, and streaming audio device all wrapped up in one. I wouldn't want it for a phone though. For that I'd want color.

I think it's pretty neat. I would much rather see one of those dual-screen (one eInk, one LCD) handsets in action. That'd be something I'd look more into picking up.

For me (everybody, I guess, now days) not owning a cellphone is not an option and I've hated it from day one.

Probably w/out waiting for reviews, I'll be buying one of these as fast as I can get to the Buy button.

The fact that they're using a nearly two year old OS (Android 2.3, or Gingerbread) for the phone leads me to believe that software support as far as updates go will be pretty much non-existent after it's released. Nice concept though.
