Question on Calibre
Hi guys,
brand new to the forum and not very technical. Started using Calibre and worked perfectly till trying to send collection from PC to e-reader (Sony PSR 900). What happens is simply every last character of the Book's title as well as Authors name is changed in to square in the reader. The interface in PC when reading the database from device afterward shows Authors correctly but Title's last character is changed in to some kind of Chinese characters. Thanks for any advise. Cheers, Ivan |

Would the files in question happen to be in pdf format?

Apparently this is a known problem -- see this thread -- in one of calibre's support libraries. Since I don't remember seeing anything about it earlier, and now we've gotten three threads on it (one's over in the Sony section, waiting for the mods to move it here) within a couple of days, it's possible it's something that broke in 0.7.x, and may be in line for a fix. Hopefully one of the gooier gurus will stop in and provide an authoritative answer instead of my random flailing around trying to look helpful.

PDFs don't present at all well on most readers, Eone. They're basically print templates meant to be presented a page at a time rather than fitted to a small screen. Normally, Calibre will do a decent job of converting them to ePub (which is, perhaps, the best format for the Sony reader range). You may have problems, though, with any illustrations, tables, graphs, etc in a PDF file. Someone here with more tech know-how than I have will soon explain to you iin plain English. Good to have your company, by the way. Best wishes. Neil

Have you tried using calibre to edit the title on the device itself. I seem to recall someone saying this worked for them. I believe being able to edit items on the Sony device from calibre was fixed in the current release 0.7.4.

Anyway. Not a big issue overall. Thought I was just doing something wrong. Easily could live with couple of squares while reading my collections Ivan |
