Yep you do... but if you get a PayPal Debit card it will work just as well. Paypal gives them for free and if you account is already verified, you don't need to provide any additional info.

Do you have the Sony Reader software installed? I recently had the same problem with my PRS 300 not showing up in ADE. After searching on here the advice was that the Sony software installs dll needed for ADE to recognize your device. I hadn't bothered to install it after a OS reinstall as I no longer used it. Once installed ADE found my reader.
