Not to be too facetious, but the cradle isn't of much use without the actual Reader...

Yup, but my Reader should get here first, next Thursday... This may arrive early the following week. Just posted in case people were interesting availability of accessories, they were originally listed as unknown ship dates.

Mine shows shipped today also. Two days after the reader. Not bad... I feared much worse based on the original "out of stock" condition at the time I placed the order!

I wish one could change the angle of the "cradling", from | to /
That would make it useful device for tabletop reading

If you don't need to have it connected while you read, you can simply lean it up against something on your desk that doesn't slide too much. Whether it's a stapler or block of paper or whatever, I think it would work. But remember that you can't remotely turn the pages so you probably want it right in front of you flat on the table or in your hands anyway.

Cradle question

Does the cradle allow you to read/use the Reader while docked?
I noticed that the USB connection to my tablet pc doesn't allow me to use the Reader, even when the Connect software isn't running, unlike my Palm which is merely charging via USB when not actively hot-syncing.

No, it doesn't look like it. When I have it plugged into the cradle, it shows a picture of a cable and connector on the screen. The page turn does nothing and the menu ring is covered completely also (by the plastic).

In addition, when it's in the cradle with the cover on it, then you can't open the cover. Almost looks like they designed the cradle specifically to block the tempation to try to use it. But like I said, it shows that connected picture instead of a book anyway.

Forgive me for what may sound like a stupid point. Why a cradle? When I first looked at one it seemed that you had to remove the cover to fit it in the cradle. From Bob's description it seems that it will fit in the cradle with the cover on. (Standard cover? Upgraded cover? Either?) Is there something I am missing?

Either cover, actually. It has an insert for putting the Reader in without a cover.

The only thing you might be missing is some like the charging & xfer convenience of the cradle compared to the loose cables. Personal preference, of course.

To answer about the fit with a cover -

I have the std cover, but I think any will fit. There is a removable inner plastic sleeve - when inside the cradle it makes the Reader fit without the cover on; when removed, the Reader fits along with the attached cover.

Remember that day in San Diego, Bob, they had some of the 'fancy' covers? I'm pretty sure I remember them fitting in the cradles okay with the fancy ones ....

Yes, I agree. I would be shocked if those covers don't fit. But can't guarantee it, because I don't remember actually doing a test.

The brown leather one appered to be the thickest, so I'm sure if people report that one fits in the cradle, the others surely will also.
