Problem pdf to mobi - need advice

I'd like to ask advice on converting a pdf to mobi, the initial results of which are shown in the screenshot. I've read about and played with the parameters of this kind of conversion before with mixed success, though the results are usually readable. I don't know if it's related to the results with this one specifically, but the file is a bit odd to start with because in a PDF reader it takes two page-downs to get each page to budge (vs. one normally). Any suggestions? Thanks,

Adjusting the line unwrap factor in the pdf input section ofthe conversion dialog might help.

Thanks. Cutting that in half helped a lot. Two more questions. Here and there the conversion is doubling (or misreading) some letters and leaving out others (spaces). For example, "specific" becomes "specii c." Anything to do about that? Also, what controls spacing between words, given justified margins?
