Page Numbering...
OK, it is my understanding that the page numbering on conversion is to maintain a standard method so that people can compare the pages to the set hardcover or paperback, but this leaves the paging weird in that it takes several "turns" before the page number changes. I would like to know if there is an option either in the conversion gui or override css that would have the pages numbered in ePub conversions for each page "turn" on the device so that it gives us a better idea of how many pages are left. I know this may not work for those who need to keep track of a standardized page system, but for many of us who only read ebooks and don't need to pass on info to others about the book, then having each page turn be one page would be nice.

slantybard--I'm pretty sure there isn't any way to change the way pages are numbered in ePub books. If you really want "page numbers" that actually correspond to the number of button presses on the device try LRF formatted books.

Hmm..how is page numbering decided for ePub books? I mean, I have converted lots of books from other formats that don't have page numbering specified, so calibre is putting in html code for page numbers during the conversion process and it would seem to me that if calibre is doing that, then it is potentially modifiable. If though, page numbering is actually a specific pre-determined standard from idpf and co, then that too would be interesting to know. It seems silly though, since when you turn a page in a physical book, you know exactly how many more pages there are and yet in e-books, it seems tangled up in that you really don't know how many pages are left.

Never mind, I found this thread:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...page+numbering I still prefer some way of knowing exactly where I am. Perhaps kindle's location method combined with the total number of locations would work best. |
