Greetings from England

Hi Everybody.

Decided to join in and learn something about ebooks.

Can anybody tell me why I seem unable to buy an eBook reader in the UK?

If I buy from China I will get ripped off by Customs and Excise.

The only device that's actually on sale physically in the UK is the iLiad, to the best of my knowledge.

However, you can certainly buy the CyBook Gen3 or the Sony Reader online easily enough. You won't pay any additional duties or taxes on the Gen3, but you will on the Sony Reader.

Iliad

Thank you all for your comments.

I have just found out that the Iliad is £433. That is around US$900.

No way is this affordable.
I can buy a nice lightweight laptop for that price!

It is way too expensive for a book reader. Furthermore, on the site I found there was no information about ebook formats (Mobi, DOC, PDF etc.) not that it matters as I won't be buying one.

I shall look at the Gen 3 next

Bookeen Cybook

This looks better at £245 (approx US$500). Still expensive. maybe I go with Jinke and pay the import dues etc. It will still be cheaper.

The benefit of the Gen3 is that it opens the huge range of MobiPocket books to you. I have a Gen3 myself - it's a very nice device indeed.
