The article quoted by the OP is a flame article, based on one true statement, that the music industry has some real profit problems, followed by a "maybe this is caused by piracy" flimsy statement that the entire remaining article is based on. There are no other reasons suggested for or discussions about the problems of the music industry, like high prices, alblums with one or two great songs and a bunch of filler junk songs, etc. The new digital download industry has enabled people to better equip with themselves with the music they want, without the old high prices and old filler junk! Unfortunately, this means a big change the the music industries' old business model, and for a large part they are in denial about that. It's a lot easier to blame your problems on someone else, in this case, the pirates.

As these industries transition from a physical analog world to a digital world, they will deny that they themselves are the reason behind the lack of profits, it's alway's going to be blamed on piracy or Amazon or whatever. And it's easy to take a narrow view and believe them.

Oh I've largely given up using logic on them and just link studies which prove that the RIAA's propaganda is..er... not correct these days.

These days? This is the industry that claimed radio would ruin them and so would cassette tapes. They're like the boy who cried wolf.

Here's the information that the OP doesn't want anyone to see:

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/n...graph-form.ars

It's not piracy that's killing the industry, it's a major change in the way we buy music. The same type of change is going to happen to the Agency 5 cartel, but it will probably take some time.

I was at a baseball game for my grandson last weekend, and another grandmother came by, saw my Kindle, and had to talk... Anyway, the first thing she said was "how about that decalskin, it's cool" and the second thing was the pricing changes going on with ebooks. Even someone who's not really into the scene is aware of the pricing changes, and was not happy about it. The agency cartel has mad a lot of folks mad about the prices, and it has happened at the worst possible time.

Well being the OP I have not tried to hide anything from anyone. I'm all about freedom and honesty. Unless by the OP you actually mean the author of the article in The Atlantic that I referenced.

Certainly the digital music industry is changing, certainly the print industry is changing, certainly the laws need to change as well. I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to say with this comment though ... particularly the part about the OP not wanting anyone to know this.

Yes, the excessive length of copyright needs to go down.

Oh, you were referring to protectionist measures? No, nothing of that sort is "needed" or necessary. The market will tell anyway, the only filter is how badly tax revenues will be shot in the foot and how long companies will drag their death agonys out for.

Quit being an ass. Don't attribute things to people they never said. Please speak for yourself. If you want protectionist measures just say so.

You're the one acting the horse's rear end. You're the one who posted an article advocating massive protectionist intervention on behalf of governments, and the quote you picked made your position plain.

And there is literally no way you can between "nothing of that sort is "needed" or necessary" and "you want protectionist measures" without this being blindingly clear. Never mind those pesky fact thingys.
